what's the best replacement for my trusty old Logitech MX1000?

My scroll wheel button died a while back and apparently the genius behind controller mapping for Arkham Asylum decided not to allow remapping...so I can't blow stuff up. :(

I really like the mouse, but Logitech doesn't make them anymore.
woot!

Well I just installed Setpoint and programmed two buttons I never use to be 'third mouse button'..so hopefully that'll work :D

I had an MX1000 that I used for years until the charger finally stopped working. I got an MX Revolution to replace it, and it worked pretty well, but I hated the fact that without Setpoint, the scroll wheel wasn't mapped to middle mouse button and was instead mapped to toggle the scroll-wheel ratcheting.

I ditched the MX Rev after not long though cause it had a horrible flaw in the charger design that made it damn near impossible to get the thing to sit in the dock and charge properly.

Then I got an MX 1100. It's ok, but not really great in my mind. I haven't tried the new(ish) "Performance Mouse MX", but I know someone who has one and loves it.

I've never really liked Microsoft's wireless mouse offerings, and I used to use nothing but MS mice. I think I owned every iteration of the old wired Intellimouse Explorer.

That's all for non-shooter gaming and actual work use though. I still use a Logitech G7 for shooters cause I love the high DPI it has. It's lacking in buttons though.

I figured out how to remap controls, thanks to Google (has to be done from the launcher). I guess I'll wait for an epic deal on a mouse rather than buying one now.

Darth - did you try cleaning the contacts on the mouse/charger?
woot!

I just use some generic "Microsoft Optical Mouse"
When the school got rid of a generation of pentium 4s, I took a box home. I'm set for mice forever.

Yeah, on my MX1000 it just died, and the mouse was wearing out anyway from overuse (scroll wheel click actually stopped working reliably). And of course I tried cleaning the contacts many, many times on the MX Rev. Didn't help at all.

From what I gathered, it's not really so much a contact issue as it was just that the charger was actually trying to supply too high of a voltage to the battery and it doesn't charge properly. Lots of reports on the internet about it.

I got sick of Logitech's shoddy charger designs though. The MX 1100 I have now runs off AAs, heh.

Razer and Logitech both offer excellent wireless gaming mice with optional wired mode.

Another MX1000 from amazon.

Still rockin' my MX518. If it ever breaks (and it shows no signs of it yet, after many years), I'll probably get another.

you could parts these, he says the cursor skips which might have just been a problem with his USB ports, not the mice.

I had the MX Revolution after my MX1000... The replacement for the Revolution is this:

And I love it. No charging cradle. Just a quick connect charging cord. You can keep mousing while the mouse charges. It's awesome.

Touch screen > Mouse.
Wacom digitizer + stylus > Mouse.
Also I have a track pad.

WTF do I need a mouse for, again?

(I also have a tiny USB mouse just in case.)

Wrong. that's not bluetooth.

None of those are > mouse for gaming, except for maybe a few specific types.

hey JM did you know modern technology allows you to use a computer on a TV screen if you prefer that?
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

hey JM did you know consoles suck for FPSes? And that your wacom and trackpad is actually worse than the console controllers in FPSes? Go buy yourself a Magic Trackpad from Apple and get out of this thread.

Feh. I haven't used a bluetooth mouse since the terrible microsoft bluetooth intellimouse. Not that I have an issue with bluetooth peripherals, but I don't think it's a requirement for an input device.

The MX 1000 and MX Rev weren't only bluetooth anyway, so I'm not sure what he's getting at... There were bluetooth variations of them that came out later, but the originals weren't.
2010-10-30, 9:32 AM #26
Yeah, what I meant was that Bluetooth was a requirement for me, which is why I have the MX 5500 Revolution (mouse and keyboard). I needed bluetooth cause the standard ... (whatever they normally use) didn't get good enough range, and would always not work very well. So my point is that if someone is using a Bluetooth MX Revolution, and needs Bluetooth, then they're gonna be disappointed when they upgrade to the mouse you linked because it's not going to have the same features.

And btw, I absolutely love my MX5500 Revolution mouse and keyboard. The mouse is incredibly comfortable, the keyboard gets good action. As for the scroll wheel, you can choose in the settings whether pushing in on it will activate Fast Scrolling (where there's no clicks and the wheel spins freely) or the standard "move mouse to scroll" thingy. I personally prefer Fast Scrolling. You push in on the mouse, give that scroll wheel a whirl, and you're at the bottom of the page. It's fun. :)
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

I've got one, the charger isn't designed right. The model had a lot of issues with contacts not matching up, and would cause great difficulty in charging. I've had to result to cramming paper under mine to get it in the right spot to charge. Not a bad mouse, a bit of lag (that has been progressively reduced over time) but not my first choice.
