Sick of Winamp
2004-01-01, 12:54 AM #1
Winamp has given me the ****s recently, especially the new 5.0 version which decided to BSOD my computer every time it auto-started after a reboot, so I am looking for another MP3 player.

I need my MP3 program to:
  • Have an enqueue function
  • Be able to be 'Always on top' without blocking anything vital on my browser (or at least have the track name and playlist function visible)
  • Have a universal key binder, so I can change tracks while playing games

Anyone who can suggest something I like will win my eternal gratitude.

foobar2000 can do all that, it has global hotkeys and can enqueue and and and

skins

What exactly do you mean, right-click a folder and enqueue? (that's under directory context menues in that installation dialogue "choose components")

[btw, things like shuffle and crossfade are plugins, can be found here http://foobar2000.blogsite.org/ (separately or bundled in the extended installer) ]

It does, you can even set a default tab to which the enqueued files go to (there is also a component which lets you decide to which tab to add)

I guess it's the German version which is identical to the UK one (that's what http://www.allmusic.com says)

And about the sending to individual tabs from context menu, that is not the way it works, just from within the program it can do that

But sending to default it can

Just provides the best sound when playing the mp3's...

Well, ever since iTunes has been released for the Windows format, a lot of people say that program is a great new alternate. I used iTunes before at school on a G4 Macintosh and the program is pretty good. Personally, I love Winamp so I'm not making any switches in the near future.

I would reccomend XMMS . . . but somehow I doubt you would be willing to switch to Linux... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Myself I like Winamp 5 very much... Winamp 3 was awful, thus I stayed with Winamp 2.79 for long. Windows Media PLayer also sucks bad.

Only part of Winamp I've never liked is the CD player. For CD's I use some program called 'Maximus'.

He speaks the truth! I have winamp 2.80 or 2.81, don't remember which, and I have had no trouble with it at all.

I still use winamp 2. It is fast, there are tonnes of plugins for it, and its free. (I've heard that winamp 5 sold out and became shareware that you have to buy.)

No... there is a pro version the lets you rip mp3s and burn CDs but there is still the plain old free winamp. unless winamp 2 can rip music, but I dont think it can.

Winamp 5 is the best mp3 player that I've used for Windows. It looks really nice too.
