Congratulations! I did something similar a few months ago. We still see each other from time to time and have sex. :awesome:

I think the forum is still glitchy. The opening post says it's by Ni and not Antony.

Hit the vodka, then sober up, tidy yourself up and go find new ladies. Also don't harp on to the new one about the old one. They HATE that.

Sorry if I belittled your post by not acknowledging it. Congratulations for not making a fool of yourself while drunk. I can't even manage that when I'm sober. Okay, I'm never sober but, back to the point, better to break up with a girlfriend than a wife. The correct "Mrs. Ni" will turn up someday. Unless that terrifies you. In that case, the wrong "Mrs. Ni" will certainly turn up someday! ;)

Thanks wookie. To be fair it was quite an easy break up. We both managed to finally admit that we were only really together for the sake of being together and don't have a lot in common.

My biggest problem is the sudden sense of emptyness. After seeing (or at least talking to) her pretty much every day for the last 3 years then her no longer being around is a bit weird.

I know there are plenty of fish in the sea yada yada but I'd reached a point where the relationship was easy, I could be myself around her and talk to her about anything. The thing is that's what I'll miss most, more than my ex herself which I guess is part of the reason our relationship couldn't really work.

Heh my point is I'll miss being in a relationship more than I'll miss her.

I haven't even been with my wife for three years.

Anyway. I'll be the one jerk then, since no one else seems to want to. You don't need to have a damn thing in common with her. You apparently already had all of the relationship that actually matters.

The only thing you have to have in common in a relationship is the ability to tolerate each other's crap.

Me too. Except the "just sex" part ended just as badly as the relationship. I won't ever do that again...

What ended up happening? Because to be honest I always kinda thought the whole FWB thing would blow up in my face sooner or later...

You might be right. I'm fairly sure this is either the best or stupidest thing I've ever done. Oh well, time will tell.

It's important to remember that even if you're completely daft and miss a perfect thing, there are a few hundred million other perfect things out there.

Congratulations.

Trust me, there are worse scenarios. Eg., I'm currently in the middle of a divorce - was married for 2 years (my daughter's going to be 2 in January), and my wife decided it's a great idea to get pregnant again* (and keep the baby) after I told her that our relationship is so ****ed up that we're probably going to be seperated (about 6 months ago).

So yeah. Sorry to blow my own horn here, but point is, you have now a great chance to meet someone who'll be even better. :)

*and I'm not sure whether from me or not - we had sex once in like 2 months and from that she said she was pregnant. Me being the stupid ass that I am and not having had sex for 2 months I didn't think with the right head. ****s sake.

Freelancer was right. It's not just astrophysics, sadly.

i disagree with martyn on principle, going out and finding someone new immediately is neither healthy nor natural.

After 3 years of having a girl use up your time, u have more me-time now. Learn something new, take up a musical/artistic project.

The point of life isn't females. Its life. Leave females alone for a while. They're annoying and tiring.
Code:

Now that you're no longer in a committed relationship, go out and get as much tail as you possibly can.

Yeah but males aren't nearly as fun :p

You're right though I'm not looking for anyone else yet. There's still too much between me and my ex. She now wants to get back together (i don't) and I still need to go over to hers and pick up a load of stuff so that's going to be a whole bunch of awkward.

After thinking about it you're spot on. I should take up a new hobby. I've always wanted to be an F1 Stock Car driver but I don't think I have the money to pursue that ;) I think I will learn an instrument. Guitar has always interested me.

Yep, definitely a good idea. I took up kickboxing (I used to do martial arts before as well, but had a 2 year break) and it seemed to help quite alot. Got a bit injured on the 3rd week, though -- broke an elbow -- but going back next week. Healed extraordinarily fast. :)

Oh, it blew up alright. She ended up getting too attached and threw the word "love" around a few times. I'm too young to die.
