What's the best Blade Runner cut?
2010-11-08, 2:03 AM #1
I want to finally watch this movie, I figure I should because it's one of those movies people tend to call "Really Good". However, at a casual glance I see 4 cuts: 1982, 87, 92, and "Final Cut". Where to start? I'm sure the Massassi geek brain trust has an opinion here.

If you've never watched it, the one with the Voice Over at the start (i.e. the original 1982 cut) is the best place to start. Then I'd move onto the first director's cut.

The thing is the voice over is crap, out of place and irritating. But if you've never watched it before, it helps you get into the plot.

I like the final cut best.

If you really want to get into it and all the intricacies, it also helps to read the book.

I've only seen the final cut, and I liked the subtlety and ambiguity so I can only recommend that version.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I would recommed The Final Cut, I don't think the other versions are really more accessible and the theatrical/1982 versions are rather irritating.

there are actually 5 versions currently available if you include the workprint

just buy the set with the 5 versions (you can find it pretty cheap) and watch them all

i've only seen the theatrical and final cut though so i can't comment on the other 3

I have always wanted to see that movie.

This thread has been very informative.

I prefer the original with the voiceovers, proper ending etc. Fits the film noir genre better.

Except that "proper ending" is a pile of dog ****.

I haven't been able to even find the original cut. Everytime I see a copy of blade runner it's either the Directors or the Final.

The book is a masterpiece. Movie's OK as well, but everyone should read the book regardless of whether they saw Blade Runner or not, I think. Just remember that it's not called Blade Runner but Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Mr. Philip K. Dick.

I bought the blue ray and watched the final cut, Jesus Christ that was good. Also the end credits music was obviously stolen by Mass Effect, and I like that.
