I receive email meant for two other people using different email addresses. One is for [username]@googlemail.com when my email address is the same but @gmail.com. Another account I have is in the format FirstnameMiddlenameLastname@gmail.com but I receive email meant for a person with the exact same name but in the format Firstname.Middlename.Lastname@gmail.com. Again, the email addresses are different in the "To:" box but go to my similarly named accounts.

Weird.

Yeah, I get some stuff. There is a Stephanie who gives people s.valadez@gmail.com, which is the same as svaladez, so I get crap for her all the time. Sometimes it's an interesting read from a friend (I got some very personal pictures one time), but mostly it's just spam.

Considering that the account getting confused with yours is a girl's, I certainly wouldn't want to see personal pictures being sent to her unless she is a lesbian -- and by lesbian either she is the butch or she is lipstick.

GMail has a bug where it doesn't necessarily differentiate between me.them@gmail.com and methem@gmail.com

Everyone here knows about the "+" trick, right? Like, if you sign up for a site and want to see if they sell your address, you can do methem+pornsite@gmail.com, and it'll still go to methem@gmail.com?

My address is my last name at gmail.com. It's a common last name in Finland, and I get crap (actual legitimate messages, though) meant for other people all the time. A few times it's pissed me off a bit so I've replied with varying types of content.

I get invitations to join seminars (because I'm apparently some kind of expert in those fields), I get orders for mechanical parts for industrial machines (because I'm apparently some kind of parts dealer), and I get personal email asking me about how I've been doing and them telling me what's been going on in their lives. The latest message, which I got a day or two ago, was some person sending me their childhood picture taken in 1973.

I used to reply telling people they had the wrong address, but those people were replaced by new people sending me messages, so I knew it was never going to stop and just thought "**** it" and started playing around with them every now and then.

My address has no periods or underscores or anything like that, just my last name @gmail.com so I guess people are just dumb.

I used to get email for some dude in the military that was stationed overseas. His girlfriend really missed him and wanted to let him know what was waiting for him at home. I told her she had the wrong address. She didn't believe me and I got some nice pictures out of the deal.

Mine wasn't that common. I forget what it was now, but it was an instance where his email had a . in it where mine did not. He also signed up for a myspace account, which gave me a few hours of amusement.

So all of this would make you wonder how often some of those people are getting our email. It seems to me that I'm really getting screwed in this. I'm not getting any pictures of naked people meant for other people or meant for me!

I still get e-mails from a local Canadian city council/planner office mail list. Every time I've requested to be removed, someone replies to all from an ancient e-mail and I'm back to getting 25+ e-mails regarding the most unimportant squabbles between members of their committee. I've read more than a few angry "Everyone at the office wants you to stop..." or "At meetings you incessantly..." or "No one likes you" back and forths.

If you have a normal username without periods or anything, your mail shouldn't be going to anyone else.

I still get some from people I know. I feel that for some reason they feel it's safer than sending it using a phone. People really should understand more about computers.

This "bug" doesn't actually exist. Google treats, for example, "dave.felcher@gmail.com" the same as "davefelcher@gmail.com."

You can test this: if you have a gmail account with periods in it, sign out and try to log back in without the periods.

This is just a case of people giving/using the wrong e-mail addresses. People are really dumb.

You can also make, I guess alias addresses for lack of a better word, that are useful for filtering, using the + symbol. For example, tofusucks+spam@gmail.com will go to tofusucks@gmail.com. Then you can filter by to:tofusucks+spam@gmail.com

I don't quite understand your post the way you worded it. The first paragraph first and second sentences seem to contradict each other. I do know that I am receiving email to my accounts where the "to" email address is different than mine.

He means that it's not a bug. You shouldn't be able to register dave.felcher because davefelcher already exists.

If someone sends an email to dave.felcher, the header will display such.

Okay, that makes sense so is the same true with @gmail.com and @googlemail.com? Also, none of this explains why I don't get naked pictures.
