Stupid internal clock. Happy Veterans Day everyone.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

You too buddy, you may get jeered a lot by the guys here but your service doesn't go unappreciated, at least not by me. Have a good one today!

Same goes to wookie and all the other -ians in the service.

Is "Happy" Veteran's Day something that people say over there? Me saying Happy Armistice Day seems a little... morbid?
nope.

You'll probably see it on a banner at a festival, but elsewhere no one really says it out loud.

umm... Veteran's Day isn't Memorial Day. We're celebrating and appreciating the service of all men and women who have served. I definitely wouldn't say happy memorial day, which is more specifically to mourn and pay respects to those who have died in the service.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Yeah, but, dude, in the rest of the world it's Armistice day, a decidedly memorial day. We can discus the holiday here, and I started a new one since I can only see this thread going towards an intellectual discussion of the nature of the holiday.

I dont see why getting up that early on a day off would be bad... just means you have a longer day off. I wish I could get up that early without forcing it...

America should have no reason at all to celebrate. We were only in that war because Woodrow Wilson was a war mongering ****.

but it's not for the veterans of any specific war. It's for all military veterans everywhere (or at least that's how I choose to celebrate it).

And to those that gave their lives in the service... I respect you just as much as those that are still serving or have served. Because you join up knowing that your life belongs to your country. You may survive or you may not, but either way you already know what you're getting into.

(Not to diminish the sacrifice of those who have died, but what makes them more special than anyone who has served? They died in the service, and the rest of us are willing to die in the service. It just hasn't happened yet. But why make the distinction when there's thousands of soldiers putting their lives on the line every day who have just been lucky, and are still alive?)

I woke up this morning at 6AM on my off day because my wife, who isn't off, accidentally dropped the hand mirror (she didn't admit to this at first). It echoed throughout the house like a gun shot (all surfaces in our home are hard so sounds really carry). As I sat up in bed wondering what in the **** was going on, I heard another loud bang, which later turned out to be a shampoo bottle that fell in the shower. I was double worried about these sounds that appeared to be coming from the bathroom because my wife is pregnant & I was worried that she may have fallen. She said that she didn't know where the sounds came from but that they appeared to be coming from outside our bathroom window (a sky light). I run downstairs like a bat out of hell thinking that someone or something is on our roof. No one is in the home, no one is outside & no one is on the roof. I go back upstairs to the bathroom & start looking around like Grisham in CSI. She finally admits that the first sound was her hand mirror but that she didn't know where the second sound came from. We ended up putting two & two together once we saw the shampoo bottle lying in the bottom of the shower. I recognize the fact that this is all very boring in hindsight & doesn't make for great TV but I just about **** my pants.

Now I'm awake, my head is ringing w/ a ****ing hangover (we went to a soft opening at a new bar/restaurant last night to hear a friend of ours sing & to have a few drinks), my wife is at work & I can't get back to sleep. On a side note, it's our two year wedding anniversary & it's good to be up early because I haven't purchased her gift yet & now I'll be able to get an early start.
? :)
