knee problems... (this is a blog post. keep out MB!)

So my close friend and ... underling (I guess) is having trouble with her knee. Her Minicus (eh?) is torn in several places, and she is having a hell of a time trying to walk and such. So she's getting knee surgery, and she's gonna have to leave the ship.. Which means, I'm gonna be in charge of the workcenter with no experienced VLS gunner's mates. It's gonna suck.

Additionally, I like her. She's a good friend of mine, and once she has her surgery, it'll be hard for me to see her again, since she will no longer be on our ship. So I'm sad... So I had her over tonight and we got all drunklike and stuff...

Umm... so post about your friends that you've lost that makes you sad.

I've had 3 (2) different doctors give me 3 different diagnosis' for my knee problems. The 1st doctor told me that I had a cyst in my knee & that I merely needed to manage the pain w/ anti-inflammatories. The 2nd doctor, which turned out to actually be the 1st doctor, but in a different location, stated that I had torn meniscus but that I wasn't a candidate for surgery. The 3rd doctor, who was a specialist, told me that I must've been mistaken about the 1st/2nd doctor's diagnosis (it couldn't possible be that the doctor was mistaken) because there was no evidence of torn meniscus. He said that I did however have a/some torn quad muscle(s) & that I would merely need to strengthen my other muscles to compensate. He also went on to tell me, in front of my wife, who was my girlfriend at the time, that I had weak quad muscles & that they were like a woman's (because he asked me to push against his arm which was holding down my leg while it was directly under his penis...I was merely trying to prevent an inevitable groin kick from occurring). He suggested that I exercise & recommended karate. I didn't bother telling him that I had been in & out of martial arts, as well as other physical activities & sports, my entire life.

I don't really have any lost friends stories, but if this thread turns in to a medical mishaps thread, I can post for days.
? :)

Yeah she had an MRI and her outer meniscus is torn in several places, and her inner meniscus is completely torn off or something... It's really bad.

It's really bad, but also a very common injury, and treatable. They'll sew it back together and give her lots of drugs. Her knee will never be the same again, but it's similar to arthritis in how it's managed. My grandfather did something similar in the navy and got discharged for it. (Not that this injury and the navy go together, just a coincidence.)

All I'm saying is, you could have a running Tea Club and Barrow Stores Thread in which you post all this? :P

But, I'll take this at face value and say:

What an odd thing to say.

I've partially torn my rotator cuff, broken my nose, and right now I'm resting a pulled ligament in my hand. According to the doc, I have very loose ligaments.

A buddy of mine tore his mcl/acl/meniscus playing hockey and football in high school. The surgery was horrible, he has to wear a knee brace during any kind of physical activity. 6 years later and it's clear that his knee will never be the same. He's still an awesome athlete, but you can tell he's lost a step.

I'd rather break my leg than blow out my knee.

Those knee problems are no fun. My buddy had a similar situation all through Iraq and it is causing him nothing but problems now.

Good to get it fixed as soon as possible! Luckily, they invented this thing called skynet so you don't have to lose your friends when you don't live or work with them!

I love Cannabis as a pain medication, but it doesn't always work unless you can get something specifically grown with that intention, but if she lives in Cali with you guys she shouldn't have too much of a problem finding medical grade.

Also, I thought all Massassi babies were part whale?

I just sort of assumed she would no longer be in the navy since she wouldn't be returning to Sarn's ship, but I suppose there are other non-physical jobs.

All of my friends have always been older, so the majority of my friends left for college this year, leaving me as a senior in high school with three good friends of mine. One of these friends is a year below me, and two of them were enrolled in the local community college. The two enrolled in community college are leaving for better (in one circumstance, anyway) places: one is moving to Kansas with his family, the other is moving to the city where a majority of my friends are going to school.

So I'm not entirely separated from my friends (except a couple who went to school farther away/never come home and the one moving to Kansas) just kinda removed and not capable of spending time with them.

Ninjedit: I take that back, I did lose one friend. He graduated, got a girlfriend, decided his friends were too immature for him to actively try to be friends with them anymore, and then got married so he could get financial aid at college and further removed himself from us.
I had a blog. It sucked.

Kind of reminds me of the second episode ever of fringe, with the kid who rapidly ages into an old man.

It didn't work so well for the mom in the end.

I've never had the opportunity to try that, but I imagine it's effective.

Nope, she'll be on Limited Duty for a while (like a year or more), then she'll hopefully be recuperated enough to return to a ship. But she'll definitely still be in the Navy, and she definitely will not be allowed to smoke marijuana.

MB: You're supposed to keep out because you always whine about my posts being personal blog stuff that no one cares about. :P But that said, you can post here if you want, but if it's just to say "No one cares, stop using Massassi as your personal blog," then I don't wanna hear it! :p
