Any of you fools have Fios?

And can tell me anything about? It's about damned time I dropped cox. Supposedly I get 'up to 3Mb/s'. I just ran speedtest.net and had to leave it on and go do something else. When I came back, it hadn't finished yet. When it finally did, I got only 0.08Mb/s. Their customer support is absolute trash. All they want me to do is unplug things, and continue to insist that they can't test my speed because I have a router.

The only other option around here is fios.

FIOS is pretty renowned for remarkable speed and reliability

I've had FIOS at my dad's and my current place. What Emon said, except replace 'renowned' with 'personal experience' in this case.

I used FIOS back home in Maryland. We were one of the early adopters in one of the first test areas, and we have never had a bad experience with it. It's freaking awesome. Super fast downloads, never had an outage, and never fought over monthly prices.

If it's available, DOIT.

The only problem with FiOS is you have to watch your back for jealous onlookers.

IOS is pretty personal experience for remarkable speed and reliability

It's super special awesome.

Wish it were available here :(

I like how the only person actually likely to have an informed contrary opinion of Fios and Verizon responds with a joke post.
2010-11-19, 5:31 PM #10
Why would Jon have any opinion on FIOS? It's not available in Canada.

Why would anyone else who had FIOS not have an informed opinion?
2010-11-19, 6:20 PM #12
Note the word 'contrary'. This means Fios is good, because not even Jon'C can find a reason to hate it.

You act like Joncy is the only person capable of hating things here.

My opinion about FiOS is that I'd want it if it were available here.

I do not. I act as if he always hates everything, and after deciding he hates something, does exhaustive research to back up his claim that it is, actually, awful. When you have a resource like that available, it's only prudent to use it.

Brighthouse had a monopoly in my area until recently when FIOS became available. It's exponentially better/faster.

you have this process backwards.

for example, I did not hate you until you posted.

My parents have FIOS, but I don't feel the difference in speeds between it and my $30/month cable internet in my apt. I don't know what you guys do, but the most bandwidth-intensive thing I do is torrenting and I download about 3 GB/day on average.

What the ****.

What? That's what I get with FIOS. Brighthouse was giving me ~5mb/s.

Everybody loves FIOS!

After this thread, even I want FIOS, but I know FIOS is impossible for me to have.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Still, that's a seriously fat pipe.

Also, I read today that they stopped rolling out FIOS to new markets a while ago. Sucks for people who don't have it! Sounds like you'll never get it.

Why they stopped rolling it out, I have no idea...

Also, FIOS is getting another speed tier. 150/35mbps, for some ridiculous amount of money + contract + wireless service.

<Rob> This is internet.
<Rob> Nothing costs money if I don't want it to.

Okay now I don't want FIOS anymore. In Helsinki we get 200/10 for just under 55 euros a month. 40/somethingican'tremember is just under 20 euros, that's what I used to have.

The 40/something was cable, I'm not sure whether the 200/10 is cable, fibre, or both.

Whoa, something being reasonably priced in Finland...
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I don't even know what I would do with 55Mb/s. I could build a wall of televisions and stream a different HD movie to each of them.
