control my mom's pc

Hey, what's a good proggy I can put on my mom's PC so I can control it from my house when she has trouble (read: weekly trouble). It's annoying having to go over to her house over and over because she keeps turning the bloody address book off in Thunderbird.

And by good program, I also mean "FREE".

I think you guys have told me before, but now I can't find it, and I'm going over there again this weekend.

You can just turn on remote desktop and then you can log in to it remotely using her username/password. If it's behind a firewall you may have to open some ports. The other windows services I know about charge money like gotomypc.com. If firewall rules are too annoying, you'd have to get something that goes over typically open ports like 80 and whatever port https goes over.

I installed logmein on my desktop so I can access it remotely if I so desire. It seems to work fine.

Team viewer. Its so simple a 7 year old can use it and it bypasses routers and firewalls.

Try XP's Remote Assistance, it'll share the screen so she can see what you're doing

I just use RDP protocol, with a dyn-dns service so I can just call the host name and not have to look up the IP everytime. I mean it depends on the kind of problems your mom is having, can't connect to the internet? Then your screwed in that respect.
