Hey, I've got a itching to play the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. again, and I remember seeing some people here who had some really good looking mods for the game. Anyone know what I'm talking about or have any suggestions for mods to download?
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

I tried using this russian mod, AMK I think it was called, but it would never really work :(

-Hey, are there any good mods for Call of Pripyat?
2010-12-16, 1:58 PM #7
I just bought Call of Pripyat a couple days ago. I've only spent about two hours on it and I haven't really gotten the hang of it yet. So far it's been a bunch of.....talk to this guy, walk for 10 minutes, look at this thing, walk for 10 more minutes, kill some mutant dogs, walk for 10 more minutes......I'm hoping it gets better.
2010-12-16, 2:17 PM #8
It...... gets pretty scary.

I actually find Shadow of Chernobyl is scarier and better paced than Call of Pripyat. Call of Pripyat feels like it has better gameplay, though.

-Also, Shadow of Chernobyl has a better ending. Spoilers: In Call of Pripyat, you end up going to Pripyat... and that's it.

Honestly, that's pretty much it. You might get some more intense missions or some gunfights, you might explore some underground areas, but if the atmosphere and setting haven't grabbed you, it's probably not the game for you. Don't expect a deep story or exciting set pieces, because you're not going to find that. STALKER games are more about what you find during those 10 minutes of walking than what's actually at the destination.

I remember playing through all the endings of Shadow of Chernobyl. There was only one missing:

Quote:
"I WANT... A PROPER, PERHAPS EVEN AN ACTUALLY GOOD ENDING TO THIS GAME"
*proper (maybe even an actually good one) ending*

If you mean a proper cutscene, I actually found the wish endings to be hilariously appropriate. But for actual gameplay, I felt that too. After a while, I came to accept that the triple death course of Chernobyl grounds > The interior > The back yard was pretty damn fun for the most part. Though I still think they could have given us a boss. I dunno, a "Super Controller" or something. Maybe a pair of poltergeists working alongside a mutated Bloodsucker. Or even just a guy with really good armor. Or hey, a tank.
But no...

-Probably for the best, you can kill a tank with one knife swing in Shadow of Chernobyl.

Mods have added a super controller to the end, followed by freeplay.
2010-12-19, 11:09 PM #18
The super controller is just ****ing annoying because winding your way down all the hallways in the NPP with the double vision and camera sway is AWFUL, especially with the mods (SMP) that add a ***** ton* of Burers and Bloodsuckers.
2010-12-20, 2:06 AM #19
That doesn't sound very fun. For one, it should only spawn at the end of the final death course.

-Anyways, how about this: A regular controller... riding a chimera >:D
2010-12-20, 2:28 AM #20
It does, and it doesn't effect you in the hallways as far as I know, there must be others in there.
The endgame of SHOC is one my favorite video game memories, a 2 hour gunfight that went from outdoors, to hallways, to catwalks. I feel sad when I think that some people have only seen the wish granter and not the back of the NPP, that **** was great. The sheer length and intensity of the battle, as well as the varied enemies, forced me to change my weapons often. I went in with a stockpile of guns and grenades, and left with the AK I took off some guy 2/3rds of the way through.
2010-12-20, 4:51 AM #21
Ha, same thing happened to me. I got the Easy Mode gun down in X-18, that one silenced automatic sniper rifle with high bullet velocity, plus a grenade launcher for emergencies and a dozen grenades, as well as some armor I don't even remember. Freedom, I think.
At the end, I had a busted, empty shotgun, a worn out Monolith suit, and I was down to my last six shots with a 50 cal pistol. Best game ever.

Call of Pripyat's ending, by comparison, sucks. Basically just GET TO DA CHOPPAH! And when you do that's it. You can freeplay, sure, but you can't visit Chernobyl, and that kinda makes me sad.

-CoP feels like a smaller game, even though each of its three areas are much bigger than the areas from SoC. It's just that there were so many more in SoC.
2010-12-20, 6:20 AM #22
Well I'm glad to hear someone liked the first game's ending because getting something like "I WANT TO BE... RICH" and stones falling on you after all those hours of doing stuff (in retrospect it wasn't that bad at all, kinda fun actually) was rather disappointing.

However, one of the extra endings where you got to explore the Chernobyl nuclear plant was probably the best IMO.

I liked the environments in Call of Pripyat a lot more than any of the other games. My favourite parts of Clear Sky were the swap and Limansk, and CoP carries on a similar feel throughout.

One thing CoP doesn't give you is the feeling of the journey counting for something. In Shadow of Chernobyl, going most places was an effort because a lot of the time you were travelling pretty long streches with little or no places to stop to resupply or even take a breather, and there was only a couple of safe places that acted as a hub in he whole game. CoP is too hub based and CS just had bases everywhere along the way for you to chillax.

I loved that in SHOC you could be in Cordon and get a mission to off some guy out at the military warehouses. And then actually walk your arse out there to do it.

Anyway, AMK is the best mod to play with. No fluff, no bull****, mutants everywhere, final destination.

Master difficulty, no crosshair, no quicksaving, no buying or selling to people or traders - use only what to salvage. No artifacts. See how far you get before you die. Take a shot of vodka every time you die (in the game and in real life!)
2010-12-20, 12:35 PM #24
I hated CoPs settings so much. For some bizzare reason they chose to have massive wide open outdoor levels. Which doesn't just kill the atmosphere, it kills the engine too. Shoc and CS had great variety among areas, COP had a wide open area with a spawn, a wide open area with a swamp, and a wide open area with some buildings.
2010-12-20, 3:49 PM #25
The wide open areas of CoP were fine, I loved it. I just wish there was more places like Jupiter Plant in it. In SoC, there were at least five missions like that and all were crucial to the storyline. In CoP... maybe two?

Oh, can't forget Pripyat Undergound, that was awesome. Why couldn't there be more like that in Call of Pripyat?

-And jin: I could never get AMK to work, which is a shame since it's awesome. I should try downloading it and testing it on my new PC.

You need the game patched at 1.0004. It wont work on any later version. It will work on a Steam-bought copy only if its still patched to 1.0004.

From there you need two installers - the original Russian mod (ver 1.4) and the English patch (ver 2.0.94). Install them in that order and you're good to go.

The links I had are dead so if you can't find them I could put them up on Megaupload.

What is the featureset of AMK anyway?
