The organic look and scary spider make me think Venom more than Spiderman. And if this guy's even worse off financially than the last one, how's he gonna afford to make this?

Wow, dark and broody. Who's the director?

IMBD is blocked at work ufortunately.

On Wiki it says it's Marc Webb.

Judging by his videography it seems that he's a music video clip director. :|

I like the slimmed down peter-parker look, but honestly the suit in general is pretty ugly. I don't get the whole crotch shirt thing. I have to admit though, when I realized he had web shooters I whooped like I won the stock market.

x25064, I'm under the impression that the main intent is to make people forget about the last lot (thus a reboot) and that suits me fine.
I actually like this suit, I'm not a huge spiderman fan though, so I'm probably not the best judge. But I think Spidey looks a lot better than in his previous movies.
I can only hope that the new Green Goblin doesn't look like a power ranger reject again.

So? Means he knows how direct. That's a good thing. A lot of directors start out doing commercials / music videos before their features. Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) was a commercials guy before doing Dawn of the Dead. Len Weisman (Live Free or Die Hard) was a props guy before doing Underworld. Not all directors go from short films / indie features to mainstream cinema. In my opinion some of the best directors are the ones that start out on commercials and music videos.

And Mark Webb directed 500 Days of Summer which was an excellent romanic dramedy so at least the character moments in Spider-Man will be good, and not whatever the **** was going on in the previous movies.

And the movie will also feature Emma Stone, who is of course the bestest creature in the universe ever.

You would think that when they present a Broadway Entertainment version of this thats it, no more Spider Man Movies.

Who throught Spider Man needed to be dark and edgy?
2011-01-14, 7:35 AM #14
Stan Lee, so he killed his uncle in his very first story.

-Dark and edgy is Spiderman's whole thing. He just is usually trying to pull himself out of it.

I always say this everytime we discuss reboots, and I always find I'm alone:

Why can't they just continue the story with new cast and take it in a new direction? I keep hearing that the director doesnt like being burdened with the previous incarnation but I think audiences are more forgiving than they get credit for. A decent director would rise to this challenge. I am sure there are better examples of this being successful, but take James Bond series (Was it rebooted more than once?). I'm getting tired of hearing the origin story retold with a slightly different spin and with the constant rebooting you never get into any of the other great story arcs.

Maybe Peter Parker's mother gets raped by an insectoid spacealien this time around.

Tobey Maguire has a range of 3 distinct faces that he applies to a wide variety of emotions incorrectly. A pathetic sagged downward look that he uses for sadness [correctly], contemplation, and slight anger/coolness. A wide-eyed look that he uses for absolutely everything from fear, anger, happiness, sexuality, and determination. And his smile which he sometimes uses for anger and confusion, too.

I tried to find a picture but none of them are what I'm talking about. The only one that is clearly represented is his rote smile face. I would feel bad if I found out he had some kind of a nerve problem in his face, but I swear to god his eyebrows move like they're CGI.

Edit: found some good examples that reveal just how accurate my assessment is if you look at the google images page. There might be a 4th "flat face," but that's his natural whiteboard state it seems.

And this:

Considering Iron-Man changed his suit a bunch in the course of two movies it's possible they'll do the same with the Spider-Man reboots. Different costumes = wider variety of merchandise.

Though I like the looks of this already.

Man, first I thought this thread was about Spider_AL's new threads over at some other forum.

Then again, who the hell would associate "Spidey" with a random obscure Internets forum member instead of a superhero who's known worldwide! Zoids!

Anyhow, I've only seen Spider-Man 1 anyhow so I can't really comment but I still think it's sort of lame that they decided to just reboot the franchise after, what, 4 years instead of tackling on something new and possibly greater. Oh whatevs.

James Bond was never rebooted, it just doesn't care a lot about continuity.

Wasn't Casino Royale a reboot?

No.

They just didn't care about continuity.

No director is stupid enough to try and throw out the Connery Bond movies. There would be riots.
2011-01-15, 5:52 AM #30
Wait, how is a movie that has no regard for continuity of the previous movies and starts with Bond at the beginning of his career as a double-0 not a reboot? According to IMDb, the 2006 remake was "his first mission".

Option 1: It was a prequel, and all the other bond movies take place afterward (this gets into the "nobody cares about continuity behind the scenes" problem)
Option 2: "James Bond" is a codename that all agents considered for the 007 post are given. Daniel Craig's Bond was brought in after the last one retired, much like he was brought in after the previous one retired, going all the way back to the 1960s.

-And of course, the one Sean Connery played later appeared in The Rock.

This makes sense but then I find it odd they would extend this rigid naming to M's Secretary - Miss Moneypenny. They do sort of joke about this tho:

"John Cleese (1999–2002): first appearance in The World Is Not Enough referred to as "R". Became Q in Die Another Day."

Actually, consider what Craig's Bond says:
James Bond: I always thought M was a randomly assigned initial, I had no idea it stood for...
M: Utter one more syllable and I'll have you killed.

-Clearly, M is Moneypenny.

CLEARLY
2011-01-15, 10:44 AM #35
Wow... Really guys?

Yes, it is a reboot. They stated when Casino Royale came out that it was a reboot. They were making the movies darker and more based on the books. Less of a reliance on 'Gadgets' which really were not in the books.

Also, if more evidence is needed... Brosnan's Bond in Goldeneye was the first one to have a female M. It was also stated that she is the first female M. Judi Dench has played M ever since. It takes the two new Bond films completely out of the previous cannon and puts them in a whole new one.

As for Bond being a codename... No. It's stated several times in both books and films that Bond is really Bond and not an alias.

They had to reboot bacause Quesada hates Mary-Jane. And all the movies sucked, Toby's too goofy looking, and Spider-Man had no charm or wit. The jokes during fights are 3/4 of the character.

Unfortunately insightful. Doc Ock was cool, the entire rest was kind of terrible. I actually think the new suit has a nice look, though, especially for a Stan Lee vibe. Hope the new movie works out, would be nice to have a good one finally!
