An interesting time waster

http://us.akinator.com/

Think twenty questions with a computer. Its quite interesting and usually gets mine in the 20 question limit. If it doesn't, keep going. It will get it.

God dammit, it got Adelai Niska right.
2011-01-15, 11:26 AM #3
It got random anime characters right, too. Although I had to let it keep going twice before it finally figured out the first one.
2011-01-15, 11:27 AM #4
It failed to get Ranse Burgess, however.
2011-01-15, 11:29 AM #5
I rememeber testing a beta or something of this like a year ago. It got most of my guesses right, even some obscure DeviantArt-only webcomic characters! I vaguely remember that if it didn't guess the correct character you could write in the correct choice or sumthin'

Ha! It got one porn actress correctly but not this other actress that's closely associated with her! Hoo-haw!

It got "The Thing" from the John Carpenter movie. I'm telling you, this thing is good.

I am extremely impressed with the logic it uses to narrow things down. It has guessed all of mine right, being Padme, Indiana Jones, Doc Brown, and Romeo Montague.

It got Doc Brown right in about 4 guesses. It was nuts. :awesome:

It got the Ice Truck Killer from Dexter right, but it had to go all the way to 30 questions to get it.
2011-01-15, 11:59 AM #13
Got:
Black Hat Guy from xkcd
Tingle from Zelda
King from Katamari Damacy
I had a blog. It sucked.
2011-01-15, 12:13 PM #14
It got Ricky Gervais the first time, Robert Jordan after two tries.

I'm impressed.

It can't get Roger Ackroyd.
2011-01-15, 12:54 PM #16
Guessed Red Power Ranger when I was thinking of the black one. Kept going, guessed the blue ranger, kept going, then just guessed "one of the power rangers"

I never get tired of the speed and accuracy Akinator has. He's really progressed since I last used him.

Got (and the out of left field question that I think got it):
Caligula (Does your character come from Ancient Rome?)
Yahtzee (Does your character live in Australia?)
Slenderman (I honestly have no idea, beyond "does your character wear a black suit" and "does your character have a peculiar complexion")
Hot Shot, from Transformers Armada (Is your character famous for a cinematic film from 2 years ago? No? Then he must be Hot Shot, I guess)
Gary Gygax (Is your character associated with Dragons?)
Banjo, of Banjo and Kazooie (Is your character associated with Nintendo? Partially? Well then, is he a genetic experiment? No? Must be banjo!)
The Minotaur (Does your character have greek origins? Yes? Does he have horns? Yes? Did your character enter the Eurovision Song Contest? Well, did he?)
Deekin (Again, I have no idea how he got it)
Danny Elfman (Was your character in a band that has now broken up? Yes? Does he have red hair too?)
John Romero (Is your character fat? No? Must not be Gabe Newell then!)
The Cinema Snob (Is your character a ninja? Partially?)

Didn't get at first (And who he first thought of):
Jerec (Assumed "bald and evil space guy with lightsaber" was Darth Malak)

Never got (And who all he thought of aside):
Noah Maxwell (Swift Karate Chopper, Bradford Winstonworth, Jay of Marble Hornets SO CLOSE!)
Johnny, from The Devil Went Down To Georgia (St Jimmy from American Idiot, The Grim Reaper, and Bad Bad Leroy Brown)

-That's enough of that, I'm getting paranoid. This robot genie is in my head.

Holy ****, it guessed Mia Wallace correctly.
2011-01-15, 1:18 PM #19
So far it's guessed everything in 20 questions for me.

I did:
Aladdin
Han Solo
Derek Zoolander
Shere Khan (The Jungle Book)
Columbus (Zombieland)
The Lich King (World of Warcraft)

still going.. I'm gonna fool this thing.. (or at least make him take more than 20 questions.)
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Got in 20:
Dawn O Keefe (Teeth)

Then I finally tricked him.. It took him 30 questions to guess Thrall from World of Warcraft.

I fooled it with Bear, the pilot from the X Files episode in season 1 called "Ice" where they get flown up to northern Alaska to deal with a alien worm that gets in people's blood and makes them kill each other.

If it would have gotten that I'd have shut my computer off.
2011-01-15, 1:43 PM #22
It got Charles Darwin, Han Solo, and Atreyu but didn't get Slevin Kelevra!
"Ford, you're turning into a penguin. Stop it."
2011-01-15, 1:44 PM #23
he got slevin kelevra for me, but maybe it was just the questions you got asked.

it got:
Justin Long
Zach Morris from saved by the Bell
Ronnie from Role Models
The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man
Slevin Kelevra
Lumiere from beauty and the beast
Mumble from Happy Feet

Did not get:
Elliot Wilhelm from Be Cool

I was thinking Andrew Jackson and it guessed George Washington. A few tries later and it got it right.
2011-01-15, 2:15 PM #25
Took it 30 guesses to get Private Kelly from Kelly's Heroes, and it didn't get One-Two from Rocknrolla at all.
2011-01-15, 2:21 PM #26
How did he think of Nute Gunray..I didnt even know how to describe that *******
2011-01-15, 2:37 PM #27
Tried three porn stars. It got Amy Reid right in 20 questions. It did not get Crissy Moran until its third guess, many more than 20 questions. Then it got Lexi Belle right after like 12 guesses using nothing but "Is she a girl? Is she in porn? Is she blonde? Does she have brown hair? Is she a brunette (Yes, it asked both of those. In succession.) Does she have fake boobs?" Those were the most specific questions it asked. Creepy.
TAKES HINTS JUST FINE, STILL DOESN'T CARE

And it got Nikki Rhodes no problem. These answers I'm giving could apply to dozens of actresses, this is weird.

It got Garrett from Thief. Woodstock from the Peanuts cartoon. Hobbes from Calvin & Hobbes. And it took 2 tries to come up with the Pointy-Haired Boss from Dilbert. And Geddy Lee on the first try too.

Amazing!

It doesn't actually understand, so it has no idea that those two ways of describing a person are the same.

It seems to get really close and then stall. I thought of the genie from disney's alladin. It asks me 'is your character a genie?'. And then a bunch of random **** before guessing correctly.
2011-01-15, 3:35 PM #34
I fooled him twice with Well Manicured Man from X Files. Somebody see if it's learned anything.

Same here. I think it's either trying to broaden it's "knowledge" on the subject, or trying to distract you before amazing you with a correct guess.

Wow. It got Suki from Avatar: The Last Airbender and the tachikomas from Ghost in the Shell in 20. I'm pretty impressed about Suki... she appears in like 5 episodes. It couldn't get Garfiel from Fullmetal Alchemist, though.

It got Arnold Schoenberg without asking enough questions to really get there. So I tried to see if it could get Alban Berg. It first guessed Beethoven (after I told it that the composer lived in the 20th century!) Then it went for Schoenberg again. Then it went for Wagner (still knowing that we're talking about the 20th century).

Then, same thing for Anton Webern. Its first guess was Mozart (who knows why...), then Wagner, then Mahler, then it gave up. So I guess the conclusion is that not many people go for the second viennese school.

failed to get Roy Walker from The Fall. Perhaps I cheated by combining his character with The Masked Bandit. Will have to try again w/ just one or the other and see.

Negatory on Masked Bandit.

my god, it got Ben Goldacre in about 10 questions.
