Proper order for someone who's never seen the movies to watch them.

This is the most important poll ever.

You need an option that just reads: "4, 5, 6"
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

Thought about that, decided not to include it. The point is whether the OT should be watched before or after the PT.

If that's your feeling, then answering 4,5,6,1,2,3 is sufficient. :)
2011-01-17, 6:33 AM #4
I voted 1,2,3,4,5,6, just to save the best for last.

Voted 4,5,6,1,2,3.

Can't imagine anybody over the age of 8 actually making it through all six movies otherwise.
2011-01-17, 6:41 AM #6
There are some that consider watching the movies in the order of 1,2,3,4,5,6 to be... unnatural.

... Anyhow, I don't think you'd watch Hannibal Rising first and then move on to Silence of the Lambs. In fact, I doubt you'd watch Hannibal Rising anyway but I guess that should only reinforce my point, right?

I vote for 4,5. And then stopping.
2011-01-17, 7:18 AM #8
Hannibal Rising and then Red Dragon, FastGamerr.

-Anyways, I went with 123456, since that way you have a nice curve of quality.

Keep the Vader surprise.

Start with OT, end with PT.

Red Dragon is a remake of Manhunter. Silence of the Lambs is a sequel to Manhunter.

People get that spoiled around the time they first walk. I'm not sure if anyone in the prospective audience won't know that Vader Built C-3P0 .

Neither of the choices are correct. Putting aside the fact that the prequels suck, the best order for dramatic effect is:

4,5,1,2,3,6.

If you watch 6 immediately after 5, you lose the impact of Han Solo being frozen in carbonite. By switching to the prequels at this point, ie after we know about Darth Vader and Leia, they take the form of a flashback and then you return to episode 6 to see how it all ends.

Whoa, I had actually forgotten Red Dragon/Manhunter! Dang.

Anyhow, I guess I have to be one of the lone "prequel defender" voices. Kind of. I like RotS, it has tons of flaws but it really was the best of the prequels and I really liked the setting and the visuals. Same with the ending of AOTC (Geonosis after the clones ... ... attack). Not to mention the Clone Wars 2003 cartoon (I don't have an opinion on the 3D one, haven't seen a single episode). As for RotJ, well, watching the OT would be really weird without it but I think the strongest moments of the film are the Luke, Emperor and Vader scenes, they're actually the only reason why I can stand watching that film through.

That's a fun idea, except you're going from TESB to TPM... Which is both anti-climactic and schizofrenic.

Another problem with seeing OT (TESB) before PT is ruining the Sidious reveal. Hmmmmm.....

If I didn't hate the prequels as much as I do, I'd think Detty's is a really cool idea. But there is a problem with it:

We don't know about Leia until ROTJ. Yoda does say to Ben's ghost "There is another" (incidentally, undermining the prequels by implying that Ben didn't know about Leia), but we don't know what that means until Luke learns it from Ben after Yoda dies.

Yeah. Hannibal Rising, Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal. With only the middle two being any good.

-As for defending the prequels... I will say, Revenge of the Sith is a pretty good film, and the Phantom Menace is vastly underrated. It's by no means excellent, but I would say it's far better than Attack of the Clones.
2011-01-17, 10:43 AM #20
I voted the latter for the main reason being you'll end it with on a good note.

This. I'd say 80% of the reasons I want to have kids one day involves seeing the look on their faces when this bombshell drops.

I'm going to censor the HELL out of their life until this to make sure it doesn't get spoiled.

We have a pretty strong idea, because when Luke is hanging under Bespin he reaches out with the force, to Leia.

4,5,6. If they express an interest in the back story then watch the prequels.
Also: Lucas' sloppy-ass writing undermines itself? That hasn't happened in a thousand generations.
Noooooooo!

But it's not the same anymore. Basically, the only way to get the same effect is to rent a cinema every three years. Actually, you'll only need to do this twice in three years to get to the "bombshell". So, start with Star Wars (episode IV should certainly be referred to as "Star Wars" in this instance) when your children are about seven years old. Slowly introduce them to A New Hope toys. There weren't very many of these toys back in the day, a pretty small variety, actually. Of course now these toys will be competing with TV, games, music, etc in a way that they did not back in the day. A couple years after seeing Star Wars you can start "teasing" The Empire Strikes Back. Rent the cinema again and hopefully they'll always remember their childhood shock. Now, if you feel really cruel you can make them wait another three years to see all the cliff hangers resolved but that would be really mean. That's if they even care or haven't downloaded 1080P torrents while you weren't looking!

I was fortunate that when my daughter was about 9 the Special Editions were making their theatrical run. Now, you might want to hurry up and have kids now as I believe Lucas is getting geared up for a 3D theatrical run. I hope he sticks to the 4,5,6,1,2,3 order. I also noticed that the bluray 6 pack is on Amazon although I don't recall the release information.

I disagree. You only have that idea in retrospect. Certainly not in your first viewing of the film assuming you're watching them in order of release. For crying out loud, it's in the same movie she just planted a big kiss on Luke's mouth to make another man jealous.

I'm pretty sure the 3D (re-)re-releases are being done in the chronological order in which they take place... so 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

4,5,6,1,2,3 - no question.

And since it will break my heart if my future children like the newer ones better, I won't show them until they're old enough to hate them (since the newer ones are without a doubt more targeted to younger kids)

Anakin Skywalker getting his legs chopped off and burning beyond recognition in Episode III disagrees with you.

4,5,1,2,3,6

Because if you must watch them all, you can't spoil ESB. Then you get to finish with Jedi.

Oh, I see Detty is also correct.

An old article, but pretty good description.
