Terrorist Attack in Moscow Airport

35 dead, 152 wounded by a suicide bomber according to CNN.

Sucks. Probably a lot of foreign citizens as well -- it was, after all, in an airport.

That's terrible. I've been in that international flights wing, and there are thousands of people in there at any given moment. I'm glad so few were injured, sorry for those who weren't so fortunate, and hope they catch the *******s who planned it.

It was the Spetsnaz.

Oops. I mean Chechen rebels.

edit: it actually is, according to Reuters. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE70N2TQ20110124

"Chechen rebels" is the PC name.

"Chechen rebels" is code for "FSB."

Would the Spetsnaz really get ordered to this? What possible benefit could this have for the government?

I'm being "facetious."

I am interested in this as well. (I am not familiar with this particular conflict at all)

Maybe Jon is referencing the time the FSB blew up an apartment building and made it look like rebels, or at least that's the theory.

I work with several women from Russia (non-spies) & none of them mentioned this at work today (maybe they didn't know yet). It's always sad when people die for something that they probably had absolutely nothing to do with.
? :)

Perfect giveaway that they are in fact spies.

2/5 of them are very attractive (1 of which is quite possibly one of the most attractive females that I've ever seen in person), 1/5 of them is mildly attractive & the other 2 are pretty busted (1 is fat & the other is old but was possibly attractive when she was young). I do believe that the 3 lesser attractive ones are all actually Turkish but lived in Russia before moving to the U.S. (they speak in English, Russian & Turkish). The 2 more attractive ones are the laziest ***** that one could ever encounter & they can be *****es at times. The 3 Russian/Turkish ones work very hard & are very kind.
? :)

Term "rebels" is used by the Western media mostly as an aftermath of the numerous, er, misunderstandings that Russia had with the US (Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, Georgia).

They are not rebels. They are terrorists.

Can't they be both?
2011-01-26, 12:29 PM #22
nope. according the the 1995 international terrorism summit in Somalia the terms "rebel" and "terrorist" are in fact mutually exclusive. incidentally this was the same summit where Mohamed Farrah Aidid claimed the presidency of somalia... true story.

Yeah but that is stupid. The way I see it, rebel refers more to an ideology whereas terrorist refers more the a method i.e. terror (attacking innocents). To me, one can be a rebel without using terrorism, and one can also be a rebel using terrorism. One can be a terrorist without being a rebel, too: like say terrorist attacks in a country other than your own. That's not rebellion, because the target has no general claim to authority over you.

...erm. That was a joke. There was no terrorism summit. But that dude did claim to be the president of Somalia that year.
