Looks good to me. Those are all high quality performance parts.

Thanks. I appreciate all the help guys, you rock. The only other thing I need really is a monitor. That can wait, however, as I'll have to purchase the system bit by bit over the next couple months anyway.

Buy it all.
2011-01-29, 12:14 PM #45
Yeah, save up your money and buy it all at once. You'll end up with a faster computer and you won't be able to use it until you're done buying everything anyway.
2011-01-29, 12:23 PM #46
Also you will save on shipping, I assume they can ship it all at once instead of separate.
2011-01-29, 2:44 PM #47
Good point, forgot about shipping.

I always did pretty good buying piece-by-piece if I'm not in a rush. Many of the smaller components are usually free shipping anyway. If I see any of the components you picked on sale, I'll try to remember to shoot you a PM. I check for deals everyday.

Just cut off the cables you don't use and electric tape that ***** up, who cares about fire.

I would hold off on buying that processor:

Quote:
"Early adopters of Intel's new Sandy Bridge processors, beware. Intel has discovered a flaw in the 6-series chipsets that accompany the new processors. The flaw causes Serial ATA performance to 'degrade over time' in 'some cases.' Although Intel claims 'relatively few' customers are affected, it has stopped shipments of these chipsets and started making a revised version of the silicon, which won't be ready until late February. Intel expects to lose $300 million in revenue because of the problem, and it's bracing for repair and replacement costs of $700 million."

All the more reason to wait for Sandy Bridge-EN...
2011-01-31, 12:48 PM #54
Yep, recall issued. Best to wait till this gets fixed.
2011-01-31, 1:13 PM #55
Wow, thanks Brian. $700 MILLION! That's crazy! I wonder why the cost is so high to replace these things, it's not like they're cars that cost $30,000 each. Did they really sell that many of these things already?

A lot of that $700m is spent on retooling and redesigning their labs and machines.
2011-01-31, 1:25 PM #57
Good point. Also, that $300M figure is revenue, not production cost. That makes a big difference.

FYI it's not the CPU, it's the chipset found on many motherboards.
2011-01-31, 1:31 PM #59
Just an update, it doesn't appear to be the processor as I mentioned, it's the chipset on the motherboard, so hold off on buying the motherboard!

The way I understand it, it is the processor but only the p67 chipsets seem to be affected by the problem

It's a SATA controller issue on the P67 and H67 chipsets... Nothing's wrong with the processors themselves.
