A few weeks ago I turned into an alley and had to avoid running over a guy passed out at the corner of the alley. It was below freezing outside. I could tell he was alive because he moved as I drove by him. I got on the line to 911 to explain the situation. While I was on the phone he actually got up and stumbled over to my vehicle. I partially rolled down the window. He apologized for being so effed up and asked me for a light. I told him just a minute and kept answering 911 operator questions. He managed to pick up on enough from my end of the conversation to decide it was a good time to leave. He crossed the street and I lost sight of him. I repositioned my vehicle to regain visual contact and quickly realized that he tripped over the curb on the other side of the street. He was flat on his back, semi-coherent, with a cigarette sticking out of his mouth. Cops pulled up about that time and I went about my business.
