There's no new firefly content, just some talking head trying bull**** about the "science" behind the fake tech in the show. Nope, not interested.

Upgraded to HD?

Will it be worth it?

Well actually:

A couple days ago Nathan Fillion made this statement: "If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it own my own, and distribute it on the Internet." And with those words, the movement was started. Already the internet is rallying a crowd-funded movement to get Fillion his ship back.

"upgraded to high definition" uhm... it's been in HD... i'm sure it originally aired in HD (where available) it's been on bluray for...*checks* over 2 years

Firefly was okay, it flopped and won't get picked up again, and there is no reason to discuss any science behind it. Looks like just another degeneration of a "science channel" just like we've already seen happen to the others.

Some considerations were made in Firefly to make certain things, like space travel, more scientifically accurate

IIRC all space travel is interstellar at sub-light speeds, there's no sound in space, etc

This always confused me. I wish they expounded on it. Even at relativistic speeds, you're talking generations to get from one planet to the next. "Broadwaves" would take years to reach destinations. And yet, I didn't see anything in "Firefly" to suggest we developed FTL technology.

There's no reason to expound on it. We are expected to suspend disbelief and that is why that is an example of what Firefly did not do well with regards to science.

Wookie is a troll that we continue to fail to ban. That's why.

Untrue. The only time there's actual sound in space (aside from a sound effect for the Reaver light) is when they're in Atmo around Mister Universe's planet.

It's stated in the opening of Serenity that the "Firefly Universe" is one large system with dozens of plants.

Uh, how does interplanetary travel take "generations"?

I enjoy Firefly and have the DVDs of the series as well as Serenity. I also have a couple of Firefly graphic novels. The thing is that playing the series on the Science Channel and discussing the science behind it is silly and reflects poorly on that network. Some fan movement to get behind a reboot series that would hypothetically be released online is even dumber. I remember how Serenity was going to be so huge because the billions of disenfranchised fans were all going to see it that it would be impossible for us not to get a continuation of the franchise.

The truth is that Firefly is just another good show that a network mismanaged and was canceled. Reruns in syndication are about the best thing that's likely to happen with it now.

If I were to get banned for that a whole lot of other people would need to as well. I'm probably only the 87th person here to call him that.

How does it reflect poorly? I see this as no different than any number of shows discussing the technology from sci-fi. There have been a ton about Star Trek, they can sometimes be interesting. The only difference is that they show the actual show itself as well.

I mean what do you want? If the Science channel were purely science, almost no one would watch it. At least they are showing it as science fiction, unlike what the History Channel does with crap like Ancient Aliens.

It just seems to be more of a trend of dumbing down the networks that used to be filled with good, informative shows. Of course it's not limited to the Science and Discovery type channels. You can see how "SyFy" often runs practically anything except science fiction.

As I've already stated I like Firefly. Still, it's a quirky scifi show that has very limited potential as far as a vehicle for discussing real science. Just seems that besides not making noise in space, future humans still using firearms, and space fairing people being susceptible to madness and cannibalism there isn't much else to talk about.

I guess I'm not so overly sensitive that I consider "idiot" to be some over the top insult. Especially when the shoe fits as it did in that thread. If you have a problem with my posts use the report feature. CM will have no problem banning me if he feels there is appropriate reason.
