Notice: IP bans and you! (9/29 Update: TOR Banned)

I say ban everyone and everything it's the only way to make it all stop

To paraphrase what Deadman said:

(Yes, I'm on a youtube kick.)

On another note, I'd think if their goal was to get extra hits on Google (and nothing to do with our community), they'd try posting their spam somewhere more inconspicuous, like the Cog forum or something.

GMail has spam registrations. If Google knows so much about security, why do they still get spam registrations?

Huh. Is that really the case?

If we're looking at a system where people get paid to sign up to forums and post spam, then they're probably getting paid very low rates per message posted. Therefore they'll want to keep their registration speed up. Therefore, any roadbump in their path from unregistered user to user with posting privileges is likely to deter them from this site and on to an "easier" site.

You don't have to outrun the dragon, just the hobbit...

This is all idle speculation of course. As evidenced by the beginning of this post, my awareness of forum spam techniques are obviously outdated.

A spambot spamming on a thread about spam-bans... there's something slightly comical about that.
I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

That's not the first spam in this thread either

TOR?
nope.

Because it makes managing bans a pain in the ass. I'm not going to actively search people out for using it, but if in the process of moderating someone I find ToR I'm just going to ban.

It's a big proxy network (not just a web proxy, a full proxy system). Mostly used for illegal activities usually due to increased anonymity.

IRL happened. Still alive, still with Free. I'll have to resume posting properly one of these evenings.
Also, ditto about first thought being, "banning The Old Republic?!"
This was the second most baffling thing I've seen tonight. The first was an old BBC cartoon of "The Magic Flute." [/COLOR]

Bahahaha, hadn't thought of The Old Republic.
Also The Magic Flute is a very strange and irritating show.
