Penny Arcade linked this a few days ago. I honestly think at least half the stuff this women is saying is B.S. Since this community was/is centered around gaming I'd like to know what you guys think about this.

Very cool link, but yeah, some of her logic is flawed. There are billions of gamers, but they're not playing cancer curing simulations, they're playing Madden 2011 or Modern Warfare 2. I totally agree with her that games are making us more well rounded and smarter (read "Everything Bad is Good For You" by Steven Johnson... you have to pretty ignorant to dismiss the mental benefits of gaming). You play videogames to think, pure and simple.

I've seen this woman before. Here's a more detailed presentation from her:

From my experience playing multiplayer games, most gamers are not thinking while playing.

The fact that this was on the Colbert Report makes me suspicious.

I don't deny that video games help with problem solving. Mostly the part about gaining confidence through an avatar in a video game. In my experience the more I game the more socially retarded I get around the opposite sex.
Maybe I'm just not playing the right games.

What, like totally dominating in a round of Battlefield (or whatever you play) doesn't put a smile on your face or make you feel good about yourself? I'd say it does, for me at least. I feel good when I am doing something well, and that includes videogames.
