ATI driver issues

I have an HD4850 and I was messing around with the overclock setting. I decided I wasn't really a fan because it creates too many artifacts in the games I play and causes them to be slightly unstable, so I wanted to shut this feature off.

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the ATI drivers but there is a check box to enable your overclock settings or disable them. When I uncheck the box in order to disable them, my screen gets a strange blurry pattern across it and then blacks out. Eventually the video card just shuts off in general and I receive a BSOD. When I reboot the computer the overclocking is still left on, so I can't really shut it off.

I was thinking about reinstalling the drivers or at the very least, updating them. I wanted to bounce this issue off of the people here to see if maybe anyone else has had this issue with ATI drivers as well, and what they did to correct it.

I've never heard of an issue like yours. Worst case scenario... since it's enabled cant you just adjust the overclock back down to stock settings?

I would uninstall the CCC and drivers, and then use something like driversweeper or ccleaner to ensure the associated registry settings are removed. Then reboot and reinstall.

did you try clicking the defaults button that restores everything to stock?

^^ what he said :)

I've got the 4890 and I don't get the problems you are describing when switching off Overdrive, just set it back to your stock clocks which I believe are 625 MHz on the GPU and 993 MHz on the ram if you can't be arsed with the driver clean/refresh.

Defaults works, thanks ford. I have a feeling if I uncheck the box it will still glitch out so later I am going to try what Triscuit suggested as well. Thank you both.

My next card will probably be an Nvidia. I just got this card for a steal, couldn't resist.
