So I've been on this Zelda kick...

For about the last month, I've been on this crazy Legend of Zelda phase.

The main reason was because I never really played, let alone finished, a Zelda game until I played Twilight Princess. Phantom Hourglass I pretty much got to the last boss but, since it was a rental, I had to take it back.

Way, WAAAAYY back in the day, I did have the first two games on the family's old NES. But since I was so young, and my attention span lasted a whole seven minutes, I never got into them. Never knew what was going on in the game and (as anyone who has a young niece, nephew, or child of their own who is young enough might know) I kind of sucked at them. I still have the NES but the games were stolen years ago.

I didn't even get a N64 until shortly before the Gamecube came out. Never played Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask, let alone any of the portable games. Sounds crazy but it's true.

About a month ago I felt like changing all of that. My friend had the Zelda collections disk that came out on the game cube that had the first two games & the N64 games. He also had a copy of Wind Waker. He let me borrow them...

So this last month, I've been busy beating the crap out of dungeons. I finished Wind Waker just yesterday. I beat the four others in the weeks before.

Suddenly, I have no idea what I'm going to do in my freetime from work now, lol. Maybe get started on the Metroid series, I don't know.

I love this series, I can't think of many who don't though. Start playing A Link to the Past, its seriously awesome.

Play Link's Awakening for the Game Boy if you can. It's pretty sweet and has some of the best music in the series, which is saying something as it's GAME BOY.

Also, if you can play Spirit Tracks for the DS, it's like Phantom Hourglass but better, at least in regard to the main dungeon mechanic.

Honestly, the only Zelda game I'd say to skip is Minish Cap. For some reason, I thought that game was very unappealing.

I played only a little of Link's Awakening on my computer once. A friend of mine gave me an emulator and the rom. I don't remember it too much, but I recall hating computer emulators after that.

I dislike using emulators myself. I'm pretty sure you could by a GBA for cheap though.

I have a DSLite which could easily play a GBA game. Finding the games is what sucks. Ecspecially since Zelda games are always marked up anywhere. One reason I never did play Ocarina of Time. Even today, if I see it in a store, without a case or manual & obviously second hand, it's tagged at $25 easy. That's just the cheapest I've seen it & that was about five years ago.

This is inspiring. I've never actually finished Links awakening, the advertures of Link, Majora's mask, or Spirit tracks (Cause I sold my DS).. Kinda makes me want to break out the old emulators.

DS Lite can't play original GB games, which is a problem if you want to play Link's Awakening. ;)

Emulators are great specially for the orginal NES since you have to spend a half an hour blowing into it just to get it to work then you have 15 mins tops before the game freezes!

But I still have my 2 NES's and original Zelda tucked away safe

I loved Minish Cap! It was tons of fun, don't skip it. Also, did you play Zelda III? BEST ONE EVER.

Someone has to explain to me why the first Zelda NES game is fun. And I have the game for my NES, so I played it in its original form.

I find it aged HORRIBLY. And a lot of the game's elements are just unfair, annoying or plain confusing.

Why should someone explain to you why it was fun? It was fun to me, not to you, oh well move on... of course I mean that in the nicest way possible. For a lot of us here it could have been our first experience into an RPG and that's what was fun about it.

I should have stated it better.

Anyway, if you going into the Metroid series, I would recommend Super Metroid and the Prime series. Then there are the other games which are fine... to meh. The newest game is filled with melodramatic crap with unskippable cutscenes and intrusive storyline.

I got the first NES zelda on my wii (you can buy a lot of classic nintendo titles on the wii) and yea it aged. I remembered that game being sooo awesome when i was 10 years old but now I just get pissed off that these centaur creatures are shooting me the second I scroll into their territory, giving me no chance to dodge the shots.

Wow Zelda 1 was my second NES game and I was impressed at the hugeness of it all. It's not so huge anymore but that's because I know where everything is. After I learned the weaknesses of each enemy I no longer have trouble with any of them. It's not the best game ever but it's a solid game and was revolutionary for its time. I think Zelda III is the best game ever.

$25?

Here in australia, cart only copies of the N64 games can go for up to $50 US.

I have such fond memories of A Link to the Past...I didn't beat it until I got the GBA version, though. For some reason I couldn't do it when I was a kid, but later on with the GBA version it was fairly easy. The Zelda games have some of the greatest videogame music of all time, as well. Memorable and catchy tunes certainly boost the worth of any game to me.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I've put in a good 25 hours recently into Twilight Princess, but haven't picked it up in a few days. I really love that game, especially when played with a Gamecube controller.

... I didn't realize I could play it with a gamecube controller. Do you have the wii version? I stopped playing because I got tired of waggling my wrist to make him slash. I might pick it up again if I can use the GC controller. Or do you have the GC version of the game, too?

Every game is better than the previous one, until after Majora's Mask. Then every game is worse than the previous one. Majora's mask is the best one in the series.

I wouldn't say windwaker was worse then majoras mask. Also I'd say majoras was towards the bottom of the list for me. I don't like being rushed through games due to time constraints.

Man, I remember Link's Awakening. Such an awesome game. That shopkeeper scared the hell out of me and I'll never forget how everyone called you THIEF if you stole something. I think I probably played it more than Ocarina of Time.

Yeah, time constraints really put me off a game.

The *first* time I had to redo all the **** I already did I stopped playing Majora's mask. It was before I ever got anything that would let me stop/pause/reverse time.

It's a joke video about a "haunted" Majora's Mask cartridge.

Yeah, you kind of get the ability to slow time right away. The time stuff is why Majora's Mask is so good.

I didn't get it right away. I never got it. Apparently I could have gotten had I replayed all the **** I already played but faster this time. Forget it.
