...What a prick. Again, the last thing we need, and a perfect example all around of what is wrong with our legislative branch.

Passing legislature that asserts itself into law without votes by the Senate or passage by the president deserves to be ridiculed. Politely chastising people who know exactly what they're doing isn't going to improve the situation, nor does it bring nearly as much attention to such stupidity as openly ridiculing them.

This has absolutely nothing to do with any of that. Cantor misspoke. He and the Republican House are in no position to do that. Weiner just proved he's an ass by using the opportunity to immaturely mock him. God, next thing you know we'll see the the likes of Colbert testifying. Oh, nevermind.

im never surprised or impressed at what politicians do anymore. if were going to be perfectly honest it could just as easily have been a republican ridiculing a democrat over the same thing.

"The Senates gotta act prior to the expiration of the [continuing resolution]. If it does not act, HR 1 becomes the law of the land." That makes no sense and certainly not by itself. Consider there isn't even any context to extrapolate what he might have meant. He certainly knows that a House Resolution can't become law by passing one half of the congress and he's not the type to claim that it could. It's an obvious misstatement. A little research yielded that it was from a press conference but I found no video of it. MSNBC had a field day with it but I didn't bother with their videos. You can if you'd like (maybe you'll turn up something). At least Weiner appears regularly on Fox.

So Wookie06 researched it, but refused to watch MSNBC's videos. I can't imagine why refusing to research something based on the source might not get the results you want. Particularly if the person in question appears regularly on Fox. I have little doubt that if someone appears regularly on Fox, it's probably quite difficult to find clips of them saying idiotic things on Fox.

Hell, I can't find a video for Glenn Beck calling President Obama a racist, so I can't imagine why we'd be able to find anything else outside of their little bubble of insanity.

EDIT: This is not me defending MSNBC, because they regularly display insanity of their own on a daily basis.

Cantor knows it's wrong, but does it anyway: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:H.R.1255:

Quote:
Deadline for Consideration of Legislation Funding the Government for the Remainder of Fiscal Year 2011- If the House has not received a message from the Senate before April 6, 2011, stating that it has passed a measure providing for the appropriations for the departments and agencies of the Government for the remainder of fiscal year 2011, the provisions of H.R. 1, as passed by the House on February 19, 2011, are hereby enacted into law.

I didn't have to watch the videos on MSNBC because the description showed they were commentaries responding to the same two sentences Weiner had on his prop. If any of the videos appeared to be video of the actual Cantor press conference I would have watched that. And what on Earth does Obama's racism have to do with this?

Cantor didn't do it, that was introduced by Womack. Cantor isn't even one of the 41 cosponsors.

I want to clarify, as an Originalist, I believe that the Constitution should always be strictly adhered to.

Now, there are a few things that are absolutely ridiculous in this thread.

First, I'm embarrassed that I didn't notice this earlier. HR 1255, if further passed in the ordinary fashion proclaims that HR 1 as already passed by the house will be enacted into law. There is absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. Unless you consider the fact that the current congress is working on the budget for the current fiscal year, in the third quarter of that fiscal year, that the previous congress neglected to pass. The simple fact that the house passed this isn't some attempt to circumvent the Senate.

Second, Weiner is a troll. He knows what I explained above and he probably knows the context in which Cantor said what he said. Of course we don't know. Unless anybody cares enough to find the actual press conference.

Third, I have no idea why Antony brought up Fox News. He must have misunderstood that what I find no video of is the press conference, regardless of network. The videos I did find were MSNBC commentators doing essentially what Weiner was doing. Making a mountain out of a mole hill. And the person I said appears regularly on Fox News, as well as any other network that will put a camera in his face, is Weiner. I wasn't looking for videos of him. As stated above, I was looking for the Cantor press conference. I find it odd that there is no video or transcript since he also will gab in front of any camera shoved in his face.

Not that I agree that his comments make him look stupid but you do realize:

and 11:10 into this one:

Amazing that Fox News didn't show any of that!

Yeah I don't know why I brought up Fox News either. I was trying to point out that they don't replay incidents that portray their commentators as idiots, and as you have simply posted youtube links to those clips, my point stands. I promise, if Glenn Beck has a clip of himself calling President Obama a racist in his YouTube channel I'll retract what I said here (as though anything I said here was not the truth).

As it stands, this is still a ridiculous debate. I don't want to derail this thread any longer, but somehow I get the feeling I have by making this post.

No, that's clear now except it's silly to think that a minor interview would still be on Fox News' website. I imagine the Walace/Beck interview might be and I would suspect that Beck's youtube channel has his explanations for his statement which might contain the original clip.

I also found this blog entry on Fox News which backs up my point but does show a potential constitutional issue with the bill.

Looks like Beck prunes his youtube channel. He doesn't keep all his videos on there. Oh well.

I don't know, I just think it would be honorable to keep the most notable thing you have ever said on your youtube channel, whether it reflects positively on you or not. That would be like one of us going back and editing all of our posts so Jon`C can't bring up anything we said in the future to prove us wrong.

EDIT: Also, Wookie06, for some reason, I'd like to bs with you. So if you feel the need, come to the chat.

nice new title wookie
2011-04-05, 3:13 PM #28
Yeah. They probably think it'll bother me. Antony doesn't like that my sig mocks Obama so he mocks me. The staff doesn't like that I'm an outspoken critic of Obama so they put the previous title. I adore the constitution so they put one that mocks it. Whatever. Just validates my opinions of them.

Wookie, you have no idea how wrong you are there.
The reason why they poke fun of you is because they find you hilarious. It's like poking the Pillsbury Doughboy. I very much doubt anyone looked at your sig and thought "omg what a mean person, we should take him down a peg", it's much safer to assume they looked at it and laughed.
You think you're making bold political statements, but really you're doing the equivalent of throwing a custard pie into your own face. So of course we laugh and make fun.
ESPECIALLY since (and here's a news flash) you are one of the very few people in massassi that take the jibes seriously... I dunno if you noticed but in massassi we all make fun of each other a lot of the time. It's been that way since before you even got here, but most of us don't take it to heart.
If you think any of this validates your opinions, then excellent! Continue the dance ;)

I find it nice that I, as a Canadian, understand more about the American political system then most republicans.
I bet if I were to fake an American citizenship, and start yelling about immigrants, I could get elected.

I don't take them serious. I just note that rather than light hearted "jibes" mine are meant to insult me. I don't care and it validates my opinion.

You've demonstrated that you understand very little. However most Americans also understand very little. Possibly even less than you.
