Last week I decided to get contact lenses and it's been a big struggle trying to get them in and especially take them out. What I need are suggestions on how you guys/girls managed to do this.

Since good advice is usually prompt here I'll post a poll so we can compare the statistical blindness of this place.

I wear contacts, and when I don't feel like dealing with them, I'm either just lazy and irresponsible and don't take them out at all, or I take them out and wear my glasses for a few days.

I haven't found anything yet that works for the current state of my eyes.

I used to wear contacts often (and not the soft kind). It'll likely take about a month before your eyes build up the resistence needed for the process of putting them in not to be a struggle, and even after that, there'll be the days you miss and it hurts like a mofo.

I stopped wearing contacts most of the time and went back to glasses because 1) I don't normally get out much and have no one to impress and 2) I think my eyes might be too crappy to wear hard contacts anymore. I have been considering laser eye surgery, but I have to see if I'm even eligable (I know my sister isn't).

Contacts only, because I haven't been able to find my glasses for months. Really the only way to get used to putting your contacts in is to keep doing it until it doesn't bother you anymore. There's no easy fix that I know of.

I wear glasses, but I have worn contacts in the past. I never had any problems putting contacts in or taking them out, but they certainly made my eyes tired by the evening, no matter what kind I had. But yeah, what most people said - it just takes getting used to for it to be comfortable.

I wear contacts when doing any outdoors, I can't say it was a pleasant experience learning to put them in and take them out but I've finally got used to it, although as others have pointed out it takes a while for your eyes to get used to it.

The last time I had my eyes checked I was told my method of getting the contacts out was rather unusual, so I'm probably not the one to follow here. I use the index finger on both my hands and sorta pop the contact out by pushing from either side, I guess I sorta squeeze the eyeball in the process a little too. From the friends I have that wear them they just seem to push them to the edge of the eye and they pop out but I've never managed to get the hang of that.

I have contacts that I can just leave in for a month that I've kept up with for a couple years since after like a month of trying my eyes hated me nonstop when I tried the sort I had to install daily.

I also have glasses but my eyes are horrid so they're really clunky and lopsided. Also my face is tiny so anything but children's glasses look huge and awkward on me.

* Ok I'm not actually blind, but my contact prescription is: -7.75 left and -4.5 right. x_X

So I'm planning on Lasik as soon as I have money since the ROI on that works out to like 3 years of eye exams and contacts for me.

Edit: The contacts I wear now are called Air Optix Night and Day. I lurve them.

I've always worn glasses, but my brother tried contacts for awhile before deciding they were too much trouble.

Given that most of the voters wear glasses, i'd say we're all typical nerds. :P

I just wear glasses. People keep suggesting I get contacts, but I haven't seen a need. Some nice prescription sunglasses were a great investment.

started wearing glasses in the 2nd grade. tried contacts like 3rd or 4th year of high school. in college i regressed back to glasses and about 6 months ago i went back to trying contacts.

contacts do take awhile to get used to. for the first couple weeks i think you're only supposed to wear them for like < 8 hours a day. also it does get easier to touch your eye as you keep doing it, that is something some people find hard to do.

I have 20/20...but my eye doctor prescribed me reading glasses in order to reduce my migraines. Wearing them actually made my eye sight and migraines worse, so I stopped...now everything is back to normal! I also don't see that doctor any more :awesome:

I wear both glasses and contacts. Glasses mostly just when I'm too lazy for the contacts.

I originally got contacts for the sole purpose of playing paintball...glasses would fog up.

It took me about an hour (two half hour sessions at the eye doctor) to be able to get them in.

I do about 50/50 glasses and contacts. usually too lazy to bother put in/out but if I'm going out I wear glasses so I don't pass out with contacts on.

Weak. My contact prescription is -12.0 for both my left and my right eye.

Glasses for me. I tried contacts once (to look cool of course) but couldn't overcome the tiresomeness of trying to put them in and eventually gave up.

20/20-ish here, though if I keep playing around with lasers without wearing eye protection I'm going to need glasses eventually.

I'm pretty sure my eyes aren't 20/20, but I don't need glasses or contacts so far. Also, my left eye is somewhat worse than my right.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Glasses and soft lense contacts here. I love having the option to choose which one. Glasses when I'm lazy or just need to let my eyes breath. But mostly contacts since I have a physical job. It's about a 40/60 ratio.

As far as getting them out, use the side of your thumb or finger on the edge of the lense, the look away from your finger. Then pinch so your not scratchin you actual eye lense. Also, since it's off the 'bump' of the eye, the natural curve of the contact makes it easier to cup and grab then.

How can you guys even see without the glasses or contacts?! lol, I only have a -3.75 in both eyes. I'm nearsighted pretty bad. I can hardly see anything but a colorful blur without some aid. I can't really imagine it being worse.

-6.5, -5.5. Pretty severe astigmatism too.

**** contacts for the hassle, I'll stick with glasses.

Usually with my eyes, sometimes with my hands.

I managed to get my contacts in in under an hour today. It's been getting easier.

This helped a lot, it's a different method than my eye doctor prescribed, but it worked for my left eye which is the hardest to take the lenses out of. Thanks.
