Seems like a waste of pepper spray, when there were plenty of perfectly good rocks to hit it with.

Poor little thing. You know he wasn't thinking "This is for the protection of the students". When he realized the opportunity, he probably thought "Well ima blast this lil basturd wid sum pepr yeah boi lol"

Kinda like kids squishing ants.

Ok sadly thats probably a no-win situation for the cop. Probably should have asked everyone to remain inside until animal control did show up.

Animal control?

I must have missed the last time a ****ing squirrel posed a threat to anything but dogs in russia.
nope.

The moose might do most of the work, but the squirrel is the brains of the operation.

that's just straight up ridiculous. Rabid squirrel? Here's an idea Drop a cardboard box over his head until animal control shows up to take him. How is it possibly necessary to pepper spray the little guy?
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Children are taught to avoid animals because of the threat of rabies.

I had a baby squirrel follow me. I thought that's what baby squirrels do...

Pretty much, because it was thinking "I LOVE YOU GIANT HAIRLESS ASIAN SQUIRREL."
nope.

I'm really beginning to despise this trend of people taking videos with their cellphones in portrait mode...

This is pretty much how the police are 24/7. I've actually been sprayed by the police before for doing much less than this squirrel.
? :)

You've been sprayed by police? That really doesn't shock me ;)

This times infinity, not to mention there was mention in the article that they thought the squirrel might be rabid, having followed after students before. Seriously guys, it's not going to rip your lungs out, but all it needs to do is bite you to give you rabies. And rabies is still a deadly disease. If you're not treated before neurological symptoms develop, you're dead (only takes a couple weeks to kill you). Not to mention said treatment is extremely expensive.

So yes, let's all cry over the poor squirrel. You'd have thought the officer shot it or something the way they reacted in the video. Meanwhile, 30 of its family members are back home ensuring to repopulate.

Most small rodents almost never have rabies. They CAN carry it but it's very, very, VERY rare.
nope.

Good to know. Still not going to take any sort of stupid risk over it. This isn't Old Yeller, it's not like it's saved our family's lives. It's just another rodent.

Most police officers are, in fact, also small animal rabies experts.

Not that I think he should have pepper sprayed him, but I don't think it was such a terrible option. There'd have been a giant reaction if the squirrel had rabies and bit a kid after the officer decided "hey it's just a baby squirrel, we'll leave it alone".

Yeah, I'm sure the media would be ablaze with stories of that ******* police officer that didn't stop an infant squirrel.

nope.

Of course it wouldn't have been phrased that way, it would have been something like:

Are your children safe at school?
2 Children infected after animal attack while police officer stands by

Why was there a cop there anyway? :P
nope.

This video reminds me of the "don't taze me bro" video in that it doesn't get really funny until the screaming starts.

Haha.

Oh, and the police officer was probably there because he's assigned to the school. We always have an officer on campus.

What was the functional purpose of spraying the squirrel though?

Well for one, it can't run if it can't see.
