FML.

I have gotten so unfit over the last semester what with taking way too many classes. I am going to try out for a hard thing that involves being hazed and harassed soon, so I decided to get back into it.

FML.

Crossfit? Is that a program.

I just go to the gym. Usually at the time House MD is on. So I watch House MD on the screens in this gym while I lift.

Do I call it the House program?

I've been meaning to start p90x with a friend but between him and me we've had a few setbacks. I should be starting by the end of the week.

i was considering p90x, but the whole thing just looked silly. I've been doing a weekly bike ride thats about 16 miles and try to walk around 4 miles at lunch time.

Run a mile or two every other day and then I have one of those "Iron Gym" things that can be used for pullups, pushups, situps etc that I use when I'm not doing anything else. I also have a weight set, but this has been working better for me.

I work out daily but really only to maintain my current form/weight & to relieve stress. I incorporate things that I've learned from the days when I practiced Yoga & various martial arts. I hope to take Yoga (again) & Savate once we get settled in Paris.
? :)

If you want to dunk, then you should be squatting and deadlifting*, not dicking around with p90dumb.

In fact, if you have ANY specific goals (I want to jump higher/swim faster/run longer/lift a car), you should stay away from p90x and find something more tailored to what you want to do.

p90x isn't a good workout program - it's just A workout program. If you stick to anything long enough, you'll see results. If you have specific goals though, p90x is only going to get you a very small way there.

If anyone has any specific questions, I'm always available.

*Squats and deadlifts focus on strengthening the posterior chain, which is the series of muscles you use to jump. Powerlifters have some of the highest jumps recorded because the squat and deadlift is so core to their workout programs. This is an AMAZING video of a 230# powerlifter jumping 40+ inches... I'm not doing p90x to dunk, but I should be able to once I complete the program. Like you said, it's just a workout program. I chose it because I know plenty of people that have used it and I like the results I saw.

32-40km on the track bike at our indoor velodrome, 4 nights a week during winter. Saturday 70-100km road ride. That's about all I do.

I was able to dunk a basketball when I was 15. However, I was 6 feet tall, only weighed about 140 pounds & was rather athletic. I can't even touch the rim anymore.
