Steam Ubisoft Week-Long Sale
2011-05-23, 3:21 PM #1
GoY informed me that Ubisoft games are on sale on Steam and I ended up buying the PoP trilogy even though I have more games than I will ever play and could have used the extra 15 bucks. I am vengefully hoping one of you spends money you shouldn't this week to make me feel better.

This is starting to annoy me slightly, because people say things like this whenever there's a big sale going on. Now, I realize this sort of thing is probably mostly said in a playful tone, but if it's REALLY a problem, then simply don't buy everything you don't need! This way you'll retain that extra 15 bucks, and you don't have to "vengefully hope" someone else also spends money on something they don't need. If you buy it anyway and the loss of that money affects your life in a meaningful way, then you have a problem with using your finances and you might want to seek some help for that problem so it doesn't get out of control.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Yeah, I wasn't being that serious. In the end I'm saving money, because at one point I did buy games when they were new. The only reason I'm aching about this is that it's the difference between spending money on one leisurely thing over another, where normally I'd probably get to go out for dinner and buy a game. Oh and I pre-ordered Portal, and that's the first time I've paid full price for a game in a while, and I'm still somewhat regretting it which makes buying another game less comfortable.

But it is always nice to have company when making unnecessary purchases!

My estimation of self-worth is directly tied to the value of my steam account.

I don't even want to know what the value of my Steam account is. It would probably make me depressed.

I'm running OSX so the value of my Steam account hasn't really changed since "Portal" came out. :(
? :)

Buy portal 2.
2011-05-24, 12:23 PM #14
I thought I had more than 99 games, but apparently it's in the ballpark of $1600

Good lord... $1400 dollars here. Thank goodness I realized quite quickly that it calculates the value based on non-sale price of each game. So what I've actually spent is probably easily half that, once you take into account bundle packages and sales.

I plan to once the price significantly drops. I couldn't justify spending that much money on a video game.

I was very close to pulling the trigger on Portal 2, but I'm with you on that one. IMHO, I actually got kinda tired of the SP campaign, although the CO-OP campaign from playing on consoles with friends was pretty decent and definitely adds a new element to the game.

But I mainly play SP, and this game's SP campaign to me just didn't cut it. I lost a lot of interest in the story once I got through the "old era" aperture science. I'm very close to the end, but I have no motivation to finish it because I don't care that much about the story this time around. Portal 1 had me hooked, this one just seems like the concepts of Portal, but spread a bit too thin. All my opinion of course, and I must say that the game is good. Just not what I would spend 50 bucks on.

Only $315.72. I would have thought more than that. I'm really looking forward to the challenge maps that come with the first Portal 2 DLC. Lack of the really hard maps is my only gripe with Portal 2.

Same here. Pretty much all of my steam purchases are things on sale or part of a reduced price bundle pack.

Far Cry 2 for 2.50 right now, well worth it
2011-05-27, 5:52 AM #22
You mean, 5$. Which still seems like a steal.

Is it worth $17 to get Assassin's Creed and ACII?

This is true, but as long as you like climbing all over everything, finding flags, and killing people in really cool ways, this won't be a problem.
