thought some of you may be interested in this!
I'm slowly working on making a stormtrooper outfit for joining the 501st. four other guys and myself are waiting on a few things before we actually delve into the armor portion, so we are working on blasters at the moment.

just thought i would share my progress so far, and post updates as i get anything interesting done.

here's the out of the box hasbro toy along with the resin cast add-on kit.

then with the bottom barrel fin ground off and an extra row of holes drilled for greater "screen accuracy"

and finally, i started painting a silver under coat. will be painting over flat black then sanding down to the silver coat in spots to get a worn/weathered effect.

i know its nothing terribly exciting yet, but the next pictures should be a little neater. :v:

right after posting this i realized it should maybe have gone in the showcase forum... oops :(

Looks good :) Are you going to do anything to add weight to it? Just to make it seem a bit more realistic to hold.

i probably wont add anything to make it weighted. everyone that ive talked to has said the lighter you can keep it the better, especially if you at an event that lasts a couple hours.

edit-
lol, ok so it turn out that once you start attaching the cast pieces it adds a good little bit of heft to the gun.

Starting to attach resin cast pieces... Already looks neat! ...I may be a little biased though.

It's also illegal since you painted the orange tip... fyi.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Actually I cut off the orange tip ;)

Probably still illegal though.

This is awesome! Can you explain how you plant to do the weathered effect? is it just sandpaper + doing it by eye?
[01:52] <~Nikumubeki> Because it's MBEGGAR BEGS LIKE A BEGONI.

Pretty much exactly that. Just lightly sandpaper through the black till you start hitting the silver undercoat. If I had more money I would have bought a brass-ish paint and done parts of the undercoat in that to give it a little variation.
But yes, probably just start with light weathering on some of the more pronounced edges and go from there.

So close!!! Just epoxy-ing the last of the resin cast parts on. Then I have to start filling in gaps and then do a final black coat and I'm done!!!

Does the "magazine" detach?

The magazine does come as two separate pieces, but to get it to stay in place it has to be epoxied. You probably could rig it up to be removable, but I am not that resourceful!

Couldn't you just use some magnetic tape?

I like some of the wear up front, where it looks like bare metal is peeking through the paint (some of that might be lighting, though). I would add some more "paint chipping" down the body of the rifle to give it a more uniform "used" look.

Also, is your stock extendable?

That would actually probably work great, lol. Kind of wish I hadnt glued everything together already... If I can find another hasbro gun I might try and do that! Now that I know what I'm doing it would probably go a LOT faster!

Yeah I probably need to spend another hour or so gving it wear and tear. This is sort of turning into a never ending project HA!
Also no unfortunately the stock is not extendable. It cast out of two solid resin parts. If you have the money you can get an actual decommissioned sterling submachine gun and modify it to make an exact replica blaster rifle, but it gets a bit pricy.

Well yeah, if you wanna go that route. I have seen some builds with custom extendable stocks, yours looks real nice folded and gives the appearance that it can move :)

Federal law does not require the owner to maintain the "toy gun" markings.
