For those who might not know about a week ago Amazon had a deal on the BTTF trilogy set on bluray for $24.99, yesterday Target had a price of $14.99 in their ad and Amazon matched the price. People who purchased it for $24.99 but were unable to cancel the order because it already shipped have contacted Amazon and recieved a $10 refund. I decided to go ahead and contact Amazon in an attempt to get the refund and this is the result.

Quote:
Me:I recently bought the Back to the Future bluray for $24.99 and now it is $14.99 other people have reported getting $10 price adjustments
Ankit :Hello, my name is Ankit. I'll be happy to help you with the information related to the price change on the product.
Ankit :Let me check the product details for you.
Ankit :Thank you for waiting.
Ankit :I appreciate your patience.
Ankit :I can see that the price has been reduced on the product.
Ankit :I am sorry for the disappointment James. We do not offer price match. However, we offered the best price available at that time.
Me:It has been reported on numberous sites that people have been given the price match... i can just order it for $14.99 then return the $24.99 order and get the same end result
Ankit :I can understand how inconvenient it is for you.
Ankit :If you will return this item, then you will be paying for returning the item.
Ankit :It will be expensive for you then.
Me:i've never paid for a return of an item to amazon before
Ankit :Alright James.
Ankit :I can understand your concern.
Ankit :Do you want to return the item?

In case you are unaware of how returns to Amazon are handled it's a very simple process of clicking a few things on their website, printing a shipping label (Amazon pays for return shipping), and waiting for Amazon to receive the item and issue the refund with NO restocking fees.

End result as I told Ankit is exactly the same as a simple $10 refund.

I can tell you that I will never fly United Airlines again due to worthless Indian customer service.

BTW, Amazon's price matching policy: "With the exception of TVs, Amazon.com doesn't price-match with other retailers (including those who sell their items on our website). We do, however, consistently work toward maintaining competitive prices on everything we carry."

Wookie... read again i wasn't trying to get Amazon to price match another retailer I was trying to get a partial refund on an item that THEY THEMSELVES were offering for the same price as Target and that OTHER PEOPLE HAD ALREADY RECEIVED SAID PARTIAL REFUND

I was attempting to get Amazon to do something they have already done for other customers in the exact same situation as mine

Amazon stopped their price matching policy a few years ago, so this really isn't that surprising.

Sounds like they have one of those "never leave a moment of silence" policies. I hate that. Thank you for waiting. I'm looking up the info now. It's just coming up. I see......

They may have been, but reps doing that are technically breaking the policy, so don't be surprised if a rep isn't willing to do it.

This isn't about price-matching, it's about price-adjustment. Amazon reduced the price of this product and have been giving people the price re-adjustment.
This Ankit fellow was saying they don't price match with themselves.Drkjedi82 was saying not only do they do that, but that he had heard other people getting the adjustment on the very item, and on top of all that it would be quick and easy for him to do a return and get the price adjustment anyway.

I know exactly what he's talking about. And I know that it's against Amazon's policy. I used to get them to do it all the time. Then they changed it sometime around 2008.

With the exception of TVs, we do not offer post-order price matching when an item's price drops after you buy it. Our prices regularly change, and the price you paid when your order shipped was the lowest price we were able to offer at the time. We consistently offer competitive prices on everything we carry because we know low prices are very important to our customers.

Thus I'm not surprised at all that a rep doesn't want to violate that policy.

Exactly. They won't even match their own price. They used to. Not anymore. Here is their Post-order policy from the same link above: "With the exception of TVs, we do not offer post-order price matching when an item's price drops after you buy it. Our prices regularly change, and the price you paid when your order shipped was the lowest price we were able to offer at the time. We consistently offer competitive prices on everything we carry because we know low prices are very important to our customers."

Sorry, I'm tired. I realize I just reposted what Darth did above. Oh well.

still it's not cool that he flat out lies about their return policy

On the other hand they do usually offer pre-shipping price guarantees. If you preorder at X, and the price goes up to Y, you get it for X. Though I think that only actually happens with epic fantasy hard backs.

Outsourced customer service lies all the time. It's a cutthroat business overseas. On a happy note, I really enjoyed this film: Outsourced
