So Duke Nukem Forever is finally out tomorrow

After about 15 years it's finally going to be. I wonder how good it will be or if it will end up being a disappointment.

All the reviews I've read have said it's mediocre or terrible.

Hasn't someone here already beaten the game?

The stupid bull**** I thought was hilarious when I was twelve is no longer amusing.

By now they absolutely should have, my first play of it was 24 hours ago, that's plenty of time for someone dedicated to have finished it.
But that persons certainly not me, the humour is eye-rolling at best, really annoying and repetitive most of the time, the graphics mediocre (not that that's an issue for me), the guns suck squinchy balls and the gameplay is very meh.
The idea of increasing 'health' by playing with various world objects is novel at first, but that too gets tedious fast.

Especially since it seems like increasing your ego doesn't really make much difference.

I've beaten it.

Couldn't have been more disappointed. It's not even a "basic" shooter, it's a craptacular shooter.

I remember reading a while ago where someone said (think it may have been randy pitchford) that it would take 10-12 hours to complete.

BULL****. I beat it in 5 hours and 42 minutes. Hardest difficulty (come get some at the start, couldn't be bothered to play it again if there was one offered at the end).

The ending... Was an absolute insult to the 12 years they've developed this game for. I don't understand how they can possibly justify beating a game that took this long to develop in that much of time and have such a lackluster ending. Not to mention it performs like ****, and the graphics are absolutely ugly. (Not the fact that it's an outdated engine, but the fact that everything looks like it's been WRAPPED IN PLASTIC). Also, the gameplay isn't that great. You frequently bump into random objects, and the controls are somewhat sloppy. The framerate randomly drops and then spurts back up. I've yet to experience a crash, but apparently they're happening. Also, I don't know what people are talking about with this whole "Enemies can kill you in one hit" thing, but it's not totally true. You can take a couple hits, but even then, you can literally kill any enemy in the entire game except bosses with one up close shot from the shotgun.

I'd post what happens but the spoiler tags dont work. Suffice to say the ending is ****ING ****.

I don't think anyone was expecting God's gift to the world.

But trainwrecks are fun to watch.

Makes you wonder what people would rate Duke Nukem 3D at today.

The best thing I can hope to get out of it are user made levels supporting the monster truck.

The sad part of the game is it goes from fun to kind of horrid at random times. It gets really obvious that it's a game that's been through a bunch of different studios and such, because it never seems to know what the hell it's doing, and half the time it's quite fun, but then half the time it's excruciatingly boring.

But yeah, the monster truck is the best.

It's ethically terrible and physically terrible.
Good job Late-3DRealms!

Ars Technia and Destructoid ripped it to bits. Avoid.

I don't see how you could actually pass up playing this. Fist of all it's really not that bad overall, and secondly it's ****ing Duke Nukem Forever. You just kind of have to play it.

At least it's not as bad as Daikatana.

I completed it on Sunday after receiving it on Thursday, probably the first time I've ever completed a game before it was out in the US (go Europe!).

It's a mixed bag. It does things that most of today's identishooters totally fail at: it's amusing, has fun weapons and is full of neat distractions (I actually loved the ego boosters). The game doesn't gel together very well and is a mess as a whole. It feels like different parts of different games made over the last decade uncomfortably mushed together and hoping for the best.

Disappointed, because I've been waiting to play it since it was first announced as a Quake II-powered shooter nearly 14 years ago, but not the least bit surprised....
