Potential ride edition.

Hey guys, I am just wondering about your opinion on how much douche the world can handle. I look like this

and I drive a plymouth acclaim but it got totalled by some douche in a civic and now it isn't weather sealed.

Enter, 1973 Monte Carlo.

Black primer, red cloth interior. Skull for the shifter. Engine rebuilt. 2500 dollars.

SHOULD I UNLEASH THIS MUCH DOUCEH ON THE WORLD?

2011-06-20, 2:54 PM #5
You have an awfully high opinion of your appearance.

And by that I mean you look nothing like that dashing man in the illustration.
TAKES HINTS JUST FINE, STILL DOESN'T CARE

You do not look like a tunnel snake.

I believe the one that Denzel drives in Training Day is a 78.

You should totally do it.

Well thank God for that! The '73 Monte Carlo is one of the ugliest cars GM ever built. The '78 looks fantastic in comparison.

Odd, I read this thread, then I come across this
"Guns don't kill people, I kill people."

Yes, a guy who we only know of because he did stupid and dangerous **** was killed by doing something stupid and dangerous. Shocking, I know.

I'd much rather have the pre-oil crisis engine options in a '73 though.
2011-06-20, 5:34 PM #14
You wouldn't get much of anything good in a '73 anyway because insurance prices had already killed the engines at that point.

EDIT: Unless it was the Pontiac Firebird Formula with the SD-455.

True. They were already going downhill at that point, just hadn't hit rock bottom yet.

Do you ignore all context just to be an ass or is it a genuine accident?

Yeah I'm not sure what the problem with my post was at all.

And everyone should know that I'm almost always deliberately being an ass.

Okay, from the owner's mouth (fingers)
Alright so check it out. I bought the monte for $900 and an ipod. I pulled the original 305 engine that was in it along with the transmission. I put a new oil pump, filter, pan gasket and fluid in the transmission. I pulled apart the 305 bought a rebuild kit from summit racing and got all the machine work done at crankshaft grinders in salt lake. the block was hot tanked, decked and bored 0.030 over. I had new cam bearings and freeze plugs installed. I had the crank main and rod journals ground 0.010" under. The machine shop also reconditioned my connecting rods and pressed new pistons on. they also did a valve job on the heads. List of new parts----Engine: all new gaskets, melling high volume oil pump, clevite main and rod bearings, speed pro hyperuetectic forged pistons with valve reliefs, head gaskets, edelbrock double roller timing chain, edelbrock 2102 cam kit w/ hydraulic lifters, edelbrock valve springs, edelbrock 2701 high rise manifold. edelbrock 1406 500cfm four barrel carb w/ electric choke, edelbrock air filter, msd hei distributor, ac delco platinum plugs, chrome timing chain cover, valve covers and waterneck. ----------- new front brakes, calipers, rotors and wheel bearings---------interior has new headliner new cd/mp3 stereo and new speakers -----------------------still needs windshield, tires, paintjob and a muffler
I figure that most of the massive work has been done, and this is a great first project car for me. Not looking to do any sort of authentic restoration, think rat rod.

YOUR THOUGHTS?

swap in a 454 and granny and profit greatly. I like the 78 look personally. Also add one large cam. Make her sound like a motorboat.

If I ever swap out the engine I am putting in a diesel of some sort. I dont care how.
Epstein didn't kill himself.

Go for it. As long as the engine builder knows what he's doing, it should be good to go. That's the biggest PITA. Also, muffler? Pfft. Side exit exhaust with a set of earplugs. Screw everyone else.

second thought, sell that ***** and get yourself a 1986 Monte Carlo SS.
2011-06-22, 6:34 AM #29
I don't think the 86 is quite my style.

$2500 is probably my max, I think it's probably a steal.

Ah OK gotcha
2011-06-22, 9:01 AM #31
The guy didn't say anything about headers. If you want that thing to be any kind of respectable, you'll need to replace the ****ty 305 exhaust manifolds. All the stuff he added to the engine would get choked out by them anyway. So definitely spring for some decent tube headers.
>>untie shoes
2011-06-22, 9:22 AM #32
For headers I strongly recommend American racing headers. They have an excellent sound.

Can't go wrong with Hookers or Edelbrock either.
