Because, after a wait of about 10 years, I can contribute to one. Meet our new black Labrador, River. This is a picture the lady who's selling the litter sent to us; we're actually going to pick her up on Tuesday so she's a bit older than she was when it was taken. River's the second in from the left, with her paw up on the next pup's back. We heard great things about black labs when we were trying to decide what breed we wanted so I'm really looking forward to her coming home. Any one else ever owned a black lab? Or got any tips? :D Pictures of your own pets also welcome!

...I was really not expecting that response.

Don't train using food....cuz whenever you tell her to do something she'll want a damn treat. We used to tell my dog stay and she'd get all hyper thinking she was going to get a treat...hyper is not staying

labs can be very headstrong. they also get very thirsty and so they urinate alot.
I'm proud of my life and the things that I have done, proud of myself and the loner I've become.

they can also be extra stinky around the hind quarters, more so than other breeds.

- also! thought this might be of some help... www.blacklabrador.com
Welcome to the douchebag club. We'd give you some cookies, but some douche ate all of them. -Rob

I don't personally have a pet, but this little lady stays with my mom:

I've had a small white dog (mix of Lhasa Apso and something else) and now a cat. Cat can be a ***** but she's still very kitten-y and cute so I suffer through it. Also, really really low maintenance, especially with a litter robot.

Only a couple of days now. My mum has gotten ridiculously excited over it (like, childlike states of excitement), but I can definitely see where she's coming from. Thanks everyone who posted advice, especially Darth_Alran, that site has quite a few good tips and interesting threads.

Growing up, we had a black lab/pit cross. Sweetest dog ever...dumb as a rock, but such a good dog!

That's what we named our pup. He's living up to the meaning of the name >_< After getting the puppy, I think I appreciate my cats even more so...they're so wonderfully independent!

I'd definitely recommend training though and take lots of puppy pictures! They grow up so fast:

I just moved out last week, leaving my dog at home with my mom and I miss him to much. One of my roommates has a cat (though the cat hasn't moved in yet; it's staying with her mom or something) named Kittums.
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

Yeah, everyone we've spoken to who's owned a black lab can't say enough good things about them, but always say something about how sweet they are. When we went to visit the litter the two adult labs the breeder owned were two of the most well behaved and friendly animals I've ever seen. And we are definitely keen on training and the pictures! I've already got a folder in my photo library with a bunch of pictures the breeder sent over :D

Well, there is my Sheltie (Lucky), that lives at home with my parents, and then at the apartment we have 3 robovski hamsters (Zep, Floyd and Ted), 5 bubble-eye goldfish, 2 sugar gliders (Appa and Momo) and a hedgehog (Pete). Maybe pictures tomorrow...
2011-06-27, 6:40 PM #21

Lucky, my Sheltie, she is 12 years old now.

And Pete, the albino hedgehog. He is about 4 months.

Aw! I was caught between "cute" and "evil" for a second, but I had an albino rat when I was young so I'm perfectly happy with "cute". Lucky's a beautiful dog, too. Aren't the roborovski hamsters the really small ones? And I had no idea what sugar gliders were until I wiki'd them. They must make interesting pets!

And one last picture before we go to pick up River in a couple of hours:
