Why isn't anyone talking about this? What are you guys? Communists and terrorists?

I adore this movie, much better than Thor and really fun. Steve Rogers is surprisingly one of the most likeable Marvel heroes I have seen and his portrayal by Chris Evans was performed rather well. He brings a sense of earnestness and humbleness that makes you want to root on for his underdog spirit. The relationship he has with Peggy Carter (Haley Atwell) also has some nice chemistry and she's a far better female lead than Jane Foster from Thor.

Hugo Weaving and his forehead played a great villain as always. However, there wasn't much depth to the Red Skull. He's basically your typical "insane mastermind bent on world domination" villain type. Then again, there's not much you can choose from to be the main villain for a WWII era Captain America movie I guess.

Oh the Avengers teaser post credit was nice as well.

7.7/10

SPOILERS
Surprisingly the ending wasn't actually a "happy ending" considering Steve and Carter's relationship never came to fruition, considering Steve's last line and the fact that he didn't exactly seem happy.

My lady was out of town for the weekend. We're going to see it tomorrow. Picking her up at the airport and going straight to the movie theater.

I know it seems stupid to complain about "laser" weapons when the same tech gave captain his powers..but I would have liked this movie a thousand times better without the blue energy weapons. And the lolz captain america show bit lasted too long.Other than that...I didn't mind spending 6 bucks and being late to work to go watch it

And then after that you're going to marry her, right?

I wasn't too excited about this, but everyone saying it was good makes me want to see it this week.

I absolutely loved it. The action was great. I somehow didn't know prior to the movie that Tommy Lee Jones was in it so that was a nice additional surprise.

I think the last superhero movie I saw was 'The Dark Knight' after which the genre just... exploded? Re-exploded? Re-re-exploded?

Or maybe 'Watchmen'.

Anyhow, I just checked the current listing at the main Finnish movie theatre franchise and I have no idea what 99% of those movies are. Hmm!

Oh times.

Everyone and their mom was part of the avengers at one point.

You are correct tho, none of the fantastic four were in the original avengers.

Yeah the above comic may feature the "original human torch" but I don't think its Johnny storm either like ford said. I think its more like Stan lee's Time Comics original human torch.
Yeah, i thought it was time comics.... I was mistaken.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Much better execution than Thor. Probably because Thor really needed to be two shorter movies (Story of getting kicked out of Valhalla, and waking up on earth, then Quest to Restore Power) rather than one long film. But that wouldnt have been easily marketed i think.

It was great to see cap in action.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Wolverine doesn't need to sleep, though... So there's that I guess. Also, he's Wolverine, if time doesn't permit him to do something he just flips out and kills time.

Yes, superhero wikis are supremo. I used to spend like an hour a day going through, reading up on each character, taking link to link to link. Some of the superman stuff goes way out there though.

the man just has shoulders the size of footballs, nbd

so i thought this movie wasnt as good as it could have been. it was basically a 90s action flick at heart with 2010 effects. the action was all pretty much 'captain america can ride his motorcycle straight into the enemy fortress surrounded by explosions and the enemy is in such disarray that he can run straight in and beat everyone up 1 by 1'. And the blue lasers thing... meeeeh.

plus hugo weaving is much scarier looking by himself (or with the one drooping eye) than with the red skull look. Plus they never... really explained why he was like that, did they?

it was fun to watch but not on par with the other avengers movies like iron man 1 and 2.
DO NOT WANT.

well the explanation is there just hidden... the whole thing about the serum taking what's inside and enhancing it... Red Skull was already a monster... the serum brought it to the surface

Well I saw it and overall liked it. I think it's tough not to like this movie tho. I thought the Howard Stark character was great too, the actor actually reminded me of Robert Downey Jr.

I don't really like this explanation for the Red Skull, it seems too magical in a story that is mostly science based. I thought it was a little weak that at their first encounter the Red Skull basically ran away.

Finally I'll probably google this before anyone responds here but what was the deal with the 'Pre-improved' Steve Rogers- was that all CGI? At first I thought it was just another actor with Chris Evans voice dubbed, but after looking on IMDB I don't see another actor listed for that role.

The explanation in the movie is that the serum Red Skull used wasn't finished. It also apparently exaggerated emotions or alignment or something.

They CGIed Evans to make him small and skinny. They tried it with a body double but they wanted to capture Evans' movement and the like, which the doubles, apparently, couldn't do.

I find the incomplete or early version of the formula explanation plausible, I just thought the 'magnifies' good or evil part was a little overkill. Also if Red Skull was missing all the cartilage in his body (like in his vertebrae and joints as opposed to just his nose and ears), I imagine that movement would be quite painful and I would be in a evil mood too.
