Who doesn't have a smart phone?

I've got an LG phone, it's not very smart. I know a guy who's repairing and reselling iPhones, so I might buy one off him and get it flashed to my network.

Only reason I've seen to get an iphone over droid is games.

I would say unless you are getting a really good deal go with droid. Because considering apples fan base.... There has to be a good reason more people use android (well, other than it being officially only on two carriers). Ie....it's better.

iphone games are better. that is about it.

See no reason to get one.

Actually, that's not true, but I enjoy holding out on things like this. Hell, I didn't even have a crap cellphone until two years ago. Wonder how long it will be until I get a 'smart' phone.

i have at&t because of the corparate discount, but i won't get a smartphone 'cause they are the only carrier w/o 3g in the area. Plus i'm always either home or at work, and I can't use a cell at work and I have my computer at home, so I don't feel its worth the data plan.

I have an HTC Touch Pro. A hand-me-down. Only reason I even have it.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I have a HTC Wildfire. Only have it because it was the best phone I could get on my cheap contract. I don't really use the smartphone functionality of it at all.

I have a Motorola flipout. It was the cheapest smartphone, because I don't really like the ability to browse wikipedia all the time, I have enough problems concentrating as it is. So I just have the minimum data plan. I think we had a thread about this.

Honestly, I play music and use the calendar and note functions quite frequently. I dont really play games at all, and most of the other features are quite to the point where I find them useful. I will wait for the devices to become a little more advanced before I actually buy a nice smartphone. Next time my contract allows me a new phone should be about the right time.

In that case, my current phone (my second phone ever) is a smart phone, but I only use it for calls and texting. I don't have any apps on it, and I don't even use the Net (not paying for a data plan, after all), but it has that capability. There's a camera on it, too, though I've never used it.

My first phone was NOT a smartphone.

Considering I only call and text, I don't need a smartphone, but AT&T only offered smartphones free with the plan I went with. *shrug*

AT&T requires data plans with smartphones

what you have is most likely a "featurephone"

If you don't have a data plan you don't have a smartphone. You have a "high-end" featurephone, with a crappy WAP browser and cheapo camera. It is not equivalent to a real smartphone (whose cameras are typically very good for their size, and features full, fast browsing).

not all featurephones are stuck with crappy WAP browsers

A few might not be WAP but they are all definitely crap. And not just "eh it's a little worse" sort of crap, but more like the "this is completely unusable why does it exist" crap.

The old BlackBerry browser certainly was among those. The new one is MUCH better (because it, like every other smartphone except Windows Phone, runs on WebKit), although it's still far behind the rest.

For those that don't know, WebKit is the same rendering engine that Google Chrome and Safari use on desktop computers.

I've had my android phone since February, and it still finds ways to impress me. From great apps like Audiogalaxy that let me stream music from my pc anywhere I can get 3g service, to turning my phone into a touch pad mouse to control netflix from across the room, there are some really neat and innovative apps out there.

I don't have one, but I definitely see the value of one.

My phone is as smart as I need it (heck i hardly use most of the facilities) but it's not a "smart phone" and I don't intend on getting one.
My friends have got smart phones and all they ever seem to do is squint at small text on a small screen and moan about signal loss. I'd rather use a PC for reading and leave the phone for phoning.
Mind you I'm one of those people who if I know somebody who lives nearby I'll WALK to their house and see what their doing rather than phoning, e-mailing or texting. Frankly I'd rather do a little exercise and most people will actually give you the time of the day once your on their door step. :)
