Hello everyone. Myself and two buddies of mine have launched a site dedicated to discussing and reviewing movies, books, tv shows and video games. If any of this stuff is of interest to you or you have some advice for newbie bloggers, let me know. You can check out the site at www.completelyoverrated.com, but there isn't a whole lot of content up now. We'll have our first podcast up in a day or two.

Why the Simpson-like caricatures?

The three of us happen to be massive old-school Simpsons fans. We thought the caricatures would be a perfect reflection of something that was, unfortunately, very overrated and has far outlived its entertainment value.

I like the style of your site. I've always harped on that sort of thing. Things that are said to be great, yet are utter crap, vs things that are said to be crap, yet are actually not all that bad.

If you ever want a guest contributor, I'll ***** about people's views on cinema, television, and videogames until the end of time.

I too can ***** about such things, except unlike Antony I have a good taste in movies.

But seriously I could definitely provide some great input on gaming lately, especially indie games.

You're both perfect because you're both overrated.

You should do a column like CHUD's Tag Team reviews, with me and CoolMatty debating the film, tv show, or game.

If you've been in the chat, you know this is a good idea.

Sounds sweet!

We are talking about designing a site to get no visitors, right?
2011-08-17, 10:38 PM #9
Antony, feel free to chime in any time you like. Your views are most welcome.

And yes, this is definitely a site we don't want anyone to visit.

Antony would probably be okay. But.... eh,... some people just don't have what it takes to write news and reviews. Sorry, CM, but you're way too defensive, and there's already no shortage of articles like what you'd write.
2011-08-17, 11:00 PM #11
That's kind of the point Jon`C. I wanted to do an Antony vs CoolMatty thing just for that purpose... But I'd love to contribute to the site just because my movie views are often on point, but with a definite **** you to the established order on how movies are viewed.

How I act here and how I write are two totally, totally different things. Besides, what better to write an opinion piece than someone who has a strong opinion? (Not to mention I couldn't give a crap if people already wrote on the subject, I write for fun)

Oh, and yes I see the irony in this post.

That's kind of how we feel about what we're doing. We found ourselves disagreeing with much of the critical media and wanted to talk about **** we liked and stuff that we thought totally blew without holding back. We also wanted to challenge things that are absolutely overhyped and offer a more realistic opinion.

On the flip side, we also want to provide a little bit more exposure for things that perhaps were not very well-received that could use a little bit more love. My review of the movie All About Steve is an example of that.

I should get off my ass and write a review for some old DOS games I dug up a while ago, I won't say which cause that's a spoiler.
E: get on my ass?

Without having seen the film, this is what made me want to be a part of this. I want to offer irregular views on films. If you've not read Vern's reviews you should... He does an even more bizarre version of what you're doing. http://outlawvern.com/

The difference is he has an absolute disregard for the norm. He intentionally misspells things and such. It's pretty amazing.

That site is actually really interesting. I only browsed for a couple of minutes at work, but I'm definitely going to check it out some more.

As smart as Joncey is, I dont think he is the person to take advice on how to write things people want to read.

all about steve was probably one of the worst pieces of film I have ever seen. Boring movie with awful comedy.

I'm going to start a sister site called "Totally Underrated" where I explain to the world that "Battlefield Earth", "The Beach" (one of my personal favorite's) & Jar Jar Binks are all awesome creations.

Ridiculous. Of course I am: I'm critical, honest, and most importantly I'm a potential consumer.

A minority consumer who wants to read things that are critical and honest.

They'll have a readership of like 5 if they write like that.

Hahaha. You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

Do you seriously only enjoy reading the sorts of things you'd write yourself?

vvv- Masturbation thread is that way, dude.

I think you're missing my point, Ididn't say anything about what I like to read.

No, you've just made wild guesses about what I like to read. You're missing the point.
2011-08-23, 11:10 AM #29
What? Oh, my bad, I didn't mean to assume you would occasionally like to read things that are good.

Oops.

Actually you know what, you got me. I am a fool who discards logic when interacting with other people. I make rash comments and think other things through while I do other things and then, and then I wonder what went wrong.

So, I admit defeat, I bow out to your superior intellect, and I acknowledge that, like many things, I am completely overrated.

Back on topic, I enjoy this website and will probably visit it again.

I don't understand what 'critical and honest' means when applied to a topic entirely of tastes.

I interpret "critical and honest" in the context of the conversation as a promise to view things with a critical eye and being honest in terms of what we liked and disliked (ie, not holding back our judgment for the sake of sparing feelings).

On a side note, I just completed my first interview! I was able to interview the author of a book I am currently reading, so as soon as the article is done I'll have it up on the site.
