srsly. Their deal sucks though. GTFO with your Alford plea.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

I agree that the deal is garbage, but at least they're out of prison.

I'm just spitballing here, but it looks unlikely because of the deal they made. They've basically acknowledged that their convictions were reasonable, and generally a person or entity can't be sued for acting reasonably.

I think they just really wanted out of prison.

I like how the one victim's dad said something along the lines of "ok, now that this is finally settled, can we please find who killed my son?"

Wow. I had totally forgotten about this case. It brings back memories of Paradise Lost 1 & 2 documentaries with Metallica the Metallica soundtrack.

yeah, im sure it was something along the lines of "well you can take this plea deal and get out today... or we can re-do the trial, but it will almost certainly have numerous... lengthy delays." its a ****ty raw deal but at least they are out.
Welcome to the douchebag club. We'd give you some cookies, but some douche ate all of them. -Rob

There's no way to redo an already busted ass trial. The evidence was ****ed from the get-go. So they took their best option. It's just a shame they can't sue the hell out of the state.

The news is ignoring the worst part of the story; the real perpetrator has been out there for 18 years. There's no chance, now, of catching him. The police never even tried - they stopped looking as soon as they got these three.

Well there is no statue of limitations, so they had better rectify this mistake

The police said the case is considered closed, so they're not even looking.

Yeah, to me this is really sad. It's like the father of the one victim said "Good, now these three boys are out of jail for something they didn't do. Would you please go find who killed my son?"

"It's just going to give a key to everybody that's on death row right now to open up their cells and walk out there with the rest us," he said. "All the killers, the rapists, the serial murderers."

I'll tell you what sucks about our legal system, the fact that hard earned and maintained child murder convictions can be dismissed through an advertising campaign. That's all that happened here. You get morons like Johnny Depp, Natalie Maines and Peter Jackson thinking they know what really happened after watching some biased pos HBO documentary, and pouring millions of dollars into an advertising campaign built on lies and disinformation- what do you get? Three convicted (still) child murderers walking amongst us and a general public that is happy with the outcome because an entertainer told them it's okay.

After 18 years of appeals, millions spent on investigation and testing, and the best California lawyers money could buy, do you not wonder why they couldn't prove their innocence? Why the murderers had to plead guilty 18 years later after having the original convictions vacated? You can't claim corruption. This is the most transparent case in history. Nearly every page of documents from the original police investigation, to the trial transcripts, to the appellate hearings are available to the public online ( http://callahan.8k.com/ ). In fact, I contributed to that repository myself, obtaining Misskelley's confession to his own lawyer while holding a bible, post-conviction: http://callahan.8k.com/wm3/img2/jm_2_8_94_statement.html

It's a damned shame that so many of you, and the public in general, hear the wm3 advertising campaign and just buy it without question.
