sprint?

With the recent event of Verizon being absolutely mindblowingly abysmally stupid and skipping over the Samsung Galaxy S2, I am considering jumping ship over to sprint. My dad has them and offered to add me on his plan, acquiring their GS2 (epic touch) while I do. I have been waiting for this phone to hit the US since its release in Korea. (No, I don't care if you think its stupid to switch carriers for a phone either. Yes I understand they may get new phones but I've been sitting on my upgrade for over a year waiting for this phone)

Does anyone have Sprint and can anyone testify about their service? Call quality I'm not so concerned about because I use less then 300 minutes a month, however data reception is a biggie for me. (I could care less about wimaxx vs LTE, I would use neither).

Everyone I know that uses Sprint seems to like it. However, I can't speak from personal experience.
? :)

I have had no complaints about their 3G and calling capabilities. I only lose signal in the middle of bum**** nowhere (where everyone loses signal). Also has the upside of roaming on Verizon if you do manage to find those few spots.

I'm happy with my service, but my phone blows (Touch Pro2).

I've used Sprint for years (mostly for data which works well, calls are also fine) and they seem just fine to me. Once I get outside of the main cities/highways/interstates per their map I guess it's mostly roaming, but the only place I noticed it was driving up through Wyoming.

The main thing that's kept me with them is that I get unlimited data/text, 450 minutes (unlimited on weekends/evenings), and gps navigation software for 68$ a month. A couple times I've gone and added those rates up for other carriers and it's almost twice that much for the same services. Please double-check me on that though before making that decision.

Edit: Using the HTC Evo Shift, which with Google Voice and Swype makes me quite happy.
Editedit: I should note since I totally forgot, that my rate is probably not representative since I get a 25% preferred employer discount.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

You're not allowed to talk about such discounts unless you get me the same discount. :colbert:

I know you're talking about Sprint, but just to offer price comparison, I'm on US Cellular and my plan costs $69.95. After all of the fees I end up paying $83 a month for unlimited text/pics, 5 gigs of data (which I never even come close to going over. hooray wifi), and 450 nationwide, anytime minutes. I have the Samsung Mesmerize handset and upgraded to Froyo a few months ago. Never had a call drop and I get good 3g speeds. As for the GPS software, I thought that was pretty standard with smartphones these days, and even if it wasn't pre-loaded the marketplace has plenty.
TAKES HINTS JUST FINE, STILL DOESN'T CARE

Thanks for the feedback so far. On Verizon alone I pay in the $80 ballpark (forgot exact amount thanks to autopay) for unlimited text, 450 minutes, and the data package. With Sprint I would actually save money: $40 in total, $10 for the added line and $30 for the simply everything charge. I use so little minutes that it would fluctuate between $5 and $10 a month that I'd give to my old man for using his minutes. All around seems like a better deal. I'm liking what I am hearing so far about the service too.

Don't forget that on Sprint, making a call to ANY cell phone (regardless of carrier) is free.

seriously?
2011-08-28, 12:13 PM #12
Yes. As long as it's in the USA, and it's a cell phone, it's free.

Basically, using all your minutes on Sprint is nearly impossible (since there's also nights and weekends free).

God damn that is awesome. Sprint is sounding better and better as I keep hearing more about it.

I've got no beef with sprint, wimax is a bit slower than lte(4G) but it's still plenty fast enough for a mobile device

Another happy Sprint customer checking in. My 27% employee discount helps in keeping me around, but I have no issues with coverage/service.

just do NOT go out of the country, or if you do make sure you either leave your phone or that it does not automatically retrieve data. really probably applies with any carrier though.

never had any problems with reception when i was with sprint.

FYI this is probably why Verizon isn't getting a SGSII variant

I understand but I highly doubt that itnwill actually launch in October. Take any release date Verizon gives you and add 6+ months onto it, if they release at all. Plus the nexus prime doesn't really interest me. I wanted the gs2 for its form factor (thin-ness) and touchwiz 4.0. Nexus prime will probably run vanilla android since its a nexus. I doubt it will see much support from Google considering they just purchased Motorola and are probably going to make moto handsets proprietary now. Aside from that its just bad business to pass on selling literally the only true equal to the iphone and a phone that has proven to sell like hotcakes globally.

Plus I'm just ****ing sick of waiting.

Aren't the Nexuses Google's flagship devices for Android (since its vanilla Android)? Of course they'll support it.

As for Sprint, really depends on your area, and I would ask people where you live. Here, Sprint is pretty abysmal.

It is, but since they just acquired Motorola Mobility, I'm sure they'll rush out the Prime to end their contract with Samsung. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Motorola branded nexus by spring.

Well that wouldn't be too surprising since there's usually a new flagship device every year. However, devices like the Nexus One still see support.
