I guessed the whole eye patch thing ahead of time, but I wasn't sure what "the question" would be but I am looking forward to seeing how it is answered.

Since The Doctor didn't tell River his name this time and we know that he eventually does (See Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead), we will probably have all of this resolved in the 50th anniversary with a big multi-doctor story that really begs the question who he is.

What did everyone think of this?

Wait, how do we know River knows his name? I mean, just this episode we were led to believe she was told the name but ended up being a clever lie.

The question pissed me off.

CM, we know River knows his name because she whispered it to him in Forest of the Dead.

It's been a while since I've seen the episode, but how do you know she really whispered his name? I know this seems like conspiracy stuff, but honestly they've pulled this sort of thing before.

I suppose we don't know for certain, but IIRC there's really no one present for the Doctor to try to deceive.

He says to River while they are alone, so as MacFarlane states correctly, there is nobody for him to decieve in the room with them. "River, you know my name. You whispered my name in my ear. There's only one reason I would ever tell anyone my name. There's only one time I could…"



My opinion after seeing genk's post:

It is River's silence, not The Doctor's.
The fall of the eleventh will be his regeneration
Silence will fall when the question is asked: River learns The Doctor's identity and then goes to the library to die
