So Duke Nukem is 10 bucks on steam right now. Is it worth it?

It should I wait until it goes down to 5?

Always bet on the Duke.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

I might be one of the 3 people in the world who liked Duke Nukem Forever. The first third (until the dream sequence) wasn't that special (and as far as the controversies go, well, people should remember Postal 2 and Manhunt), but it seemed like 3D Realms (who I believe made most of the stuff in the game anyhow) had somehow managed to lousily rip off Prey of all things and (repetition for emphasis) didn't do it very well. The second third from the dream sequence 'til you enter the dam was very great and enjoyable. The game after that? Pure. S***. It's like, of all things, they decided to rip off the lacklusterish cave parts of Crysis and once again they did it atrociously. I would still say it's worth $10 but I'd wait until it was like $5 because paying the full retail price was very dumb of me.

And yet, playing Duke Nukem 3D with the High Resolution Pack is 1,000,000 times better than what DNF could ever achieve.

I agree completely with FGR. The middle portion of the game is absolutely wonderful. The first bit isn't great, and I didn't even make it through the final stretch of the game because I hated it so badly.

I'm one of the others.

It was a mess of a game, but it was FUN (which people don't seem to care about anymore).

I still care about fun, I just didn't find the game even slightly fun (I didn't get to the halfway point though, might give it another shot based on what I've read here).

It was the fact that the weapons felt meaty and didn't have crappy recoil or minuscule ammo clips like recent games do. Plus the humour, whilst completely childish, is great.

Don't buy it. Not even when it goes down to $5. It's terrible.

I see DNF for $20, and some kind of expansion pack for $10...

Unless they upped the price after a day.

Worse then that is the childish humour repeated over and over again.
Like when you had to climb a statue of yourself and the guys keep talking about you touching yourself, saying the same line over and over. Would be better if they at least took a few seconds between the 'jokes' ><

I decided not to get it for $10 since it'll probably be $5 at christmas and there are too many games on steam that I have yet to play anyway.

I haven't done much gaming in the past several years. I did purchase "Half-Life 2" before my hiatus (just completed "HL2", "HL2:EP1" & "HL2:EP2" yesterday & had a blast) & remembered that I have access to both the Mac OS X & Windows versions via Steam. Is this the case for all cross-platform games that I purchase via Steam? For instance, if I purchase "Duke Nukem Forever" via Steam for my Mac, will I also have access to the Windows version when I eventually get around to building a new gaming box?

If there's a Mac version, I'm fairly sure you will always have access to a Windows and Mac copy. You can confirm this by looking on the store page for the "SteamPlay" icon.
