Finding a weird ass place to live.

So I am looking for a new place to live in the event I don't go to Afghan next year, but I have a few conditions.

No roommates.

Mostly that. I really have no need for internet inside my home at this point in my life, since I have a netbook I can use at school, and my art computer doesn't connect to internets. Additionally, I don't watch television (well I do, but not ON television) and don't play videogames. The concept of living on my own and not dealing with other people's bull**** clutter (tvs and xboxes and boxes of cereal I don't eat) in my face all the time is amazing. I go out and socialize most of my day. When I'm home, I want to be alone, and I want to be peaceful and productive.

Ideally, I would have myself a one bedroom (or even one room) house since I sleep in a hammock (and am considering trying out real traditional futons) giving me a single room to inhabit, without the clutter of a bed. Unfortunately, that is hard to find.

So in my search I have seen a number of really cool opportunities people have found. Living in what used to be a warehouse office, but is now an empty space over a restaurant, just living in a small auto garage etc. etc. It's almost as alluring as my one room house fantasy.

Now, those are obviously unique situations, but I was wondering if anyone had ever seen a community dedicated to finding weird ass places to live? Discussing zoning issues in various areas, or even a classifieds or locator service...

Dumb question but you knever now with this place.

I think your biggest obstacle will be finding a shower in these places.

Seriously, that's my biggest consideration. I can cook on a hot plate, but not anything else. A long time ago I met someone who was living in a quonset hut on a backlot in salt lake, and it was furnished baller status inside, looked like **** from the outside. Whole area got leveled though, too bad.

For a while now I've been wanting to live in a gas station. Live with a vehicle, car or motorcycle and have it be somewhere warm, Texas or so, along a highway.

Instead I'm looking at moving to New York....

I would recommend living in the sewers like these guys.

However, if that's not your cup of tea, maybe you should consider purchasing or renting a remote plot of land & constructing or purchasing a tiny home. They're quite small but functional.

If you end up finding a one room studio apartment you can always do something extreme with it like this guy...

I would advise you to keep up on the Apartment Therapy blog as well, for inspiration. A ton of their content involves small spaces.

My wife, daughter & myself are currently living in a studio apartment in Paris. It's about 25 (m^2). We converted a small closet in to the baby's bedroom & we have a nice futon that we sleep on. It suits us just fine.

I'm sure you can find a kozy place to live in a local Chinatown, if you don't mind fire hazards.
