So what do people think about the 5th of November? Do you guys think that anonymous is going to take down Facebook? If so, what do you think their main vector will be? DDOS, Data deletion, account jacking?

All I know is that I am seeing Umphrey's McGee twice on the 5th.

I have heard nothing about the plans to take facebook down. I doubt they will be able to.

who knows, I remember seeing something about this though a few months ago.

I don't give a **** about anonymous. The guys I know who have botnets/skills are way too busy having fun instead of being butthurt on the internet.

My original post was censored. And my response wasn't funny enough paraphrase. So my apologies for this spam.

Tell your friends that being able to remote desktop into their parents' PC does not make it a botnet.

Also, Anonymous actually did something worthwhile just a few days ago. They took down a massive child porn website that was hidden in TOR.

I was just reading about that. Interesting stuff.

As far as Facebook goes, I hope that they succeed, even if it's only for a very short period of time.
? :)

The timing attacks they used to locate the server in the United States are more interesting.

Quote:
“The server was using hardened PHP with escaping,” Anonymous said in its statement. “We were able to bypass it with with UTF-16 ASCII encoding.”
It's a bog standard PHP and MySQL exploit. Not too interesting.

The problem boils down to inadequate libraries and standard practices. Most internet sources and self-taught PHP programmers advocate string manipulation for input sanitization (like mysql_real_escape_string,) but this is completely inadequate. It's not just that you can use overlong or other invalid inputs to hide characters, but for certain character sets and encodings you can actually craft strings that take advantage of the transformations performed by these functions.

I'm not complaining about pedos twisting in the wind, I'm just saying that most PHP developers should be hanging up there too.

The problem is that for most PHP devs (idiots), character sets are little more than voodoo and they don't understand it whatsoever. They make their db in PHPMyAdmin, use the default character set, and never look at it again.

The real problem is that PHP and MySQL expose these issues to their users.

It would appear that the article that I read saying that they were going to do it was miss informed. After doing some digging I found that it was not Anonymous but a "third party" under the name of Anonymous.

/me facepalms

EDIT: Though I must admit I was a bit disappointed to find that out. 90% of all tech issues that I have to work on involve F*** Book.
