Any Archers on Massassi?

I found an old longbow in my basement (belonged to my father-in-law or his father, presumably, i havent asked.) and it looks to be in pretty good shape. it really just looks like it needs a new bowstring. the arrows are pretty shoddy as well, but i can probably pick up those at any ole sporting good store.

Now I took, an archery class at my local college, and found it to be very relaxing, and challenging at the same time, and wouldnt mind picking up the sport again. We used recurves in class rather than longbows, but the principles should be the same.

That said, anyone know a good place to buy a bowstring? Does anyone outside of an academic arena/ren-fair people use anything other than compound bows these days?

I forget the name of the show, but we had a dude paralyzed from waist down come to Maine (I work at airport, I notice when people come here) that was going to mouse hunt with his recurve. All I got to say is that's crazy.

Back in middle school I won a few state joad competitions. (20 yard recurve) I got older I stated to suck, so I quit it. All it probably was as my body grew it threw my stance off, thus making me suck.

A mouse would be much more entertaining to see hunted with a bow!

Also I used to be into archery when I was in 5th grade. There was a team I was on for a little at the school I went to. I sucked at it though...

Back on the op.. Check local hunt shops. Or Ebay. I picked up quite a few archery gear there. Bought a local 20 pound recurve. Eventually bought 40 pound arches and better site on Ebay. Went thru a bunch of strings. finding a string you like is better than any other gear IMO

Yeah... I honestly at first thought the thread was about 'Archer' the series at first. Disappointing.

Anyways... Ford, You may be able to pick up a bow string at you local sporting goods store. Gander mountain, Dicks, etc... and yes, I do mean a regular one, not a compound bow. Also, along the lines of what Squirrel King said, Ebay is a nice place to search.

I would highly recommend that you get get a professional to look at the bow before you try to string it. I had a longbow that was owned by my great grandfather. I was told not to shoot it thought because of a little crack that could split the entire bow. It makes a great decoration though.
