Is it just me, or does it seem like many folks will be very offended by this design?

This was a bad idea, whoever thought of it should be punched squarely in the balls.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

That actually looks really cool.

I see what you mean though. =\

Yeah, I actually think it would be a pretty great idea, except

Willing to bet it's not so ingrained in a foreign country's consciousness.
nope.

It's a neat idea, but apart from the obvious problem with it, I also think that it looks kind of stupid.

Dutch firm designing a project in Seoul. Not offensive. C'mon.

For a second I was prepared to be shocked if this was some project in Manhattan, but...

Yeah, I'm not sure why Korean architecture should be hostage to the collective psychosis of Americans.

Yeah, they have plenty of other things to stress out about. Like their neighbors directly north of them.

I'm not the type to see 9/11 imagery everywhere, but that was pretty much all I saw in this design.

-It probably won't happen, regardless of intentions and such.

I agree completely, but you can't deny that a bunch of New Yorkers and idiotic "patriotic" Americans will get pissy over this.

*in line with the title*

Knock it down?

In seriousness. Bad taste in New York, yes. Seoul? Not so much. Personally, I think the design is neat, but how in heck would that be practical?

If a 747 full of racist Americans (The only ones that actually care enough about this to be militant about it) flew themselves into these while empty it would raise the IQ of the planet by a statistical significant amount.

No, it wouldn't.

This. It's a building on the other side of the world.

By the way, the design is supposed to emulate clouds. I think it looks pretty neat.

People get offended by everything. I mean, honestly, whenever it's "two towers" related, people throw a hiss-fit anyway because evidently 9/11 copyrighted that imagery.

Additionally, you have to ignore the fact that its just conceptual, architectural ideas/renderings/compositions. Stuff like this hardly, hardly gets built. The post-modern architecture world produces this stuff by the metric ton each year. I can't image the engineering needed to make something like this, but it doesn't change the truth that controversy can help.

I mean look at this:

How stupid. It looks like sails on a retarded sailboat.

It will never last, Australian culture would do better without it.

I agree 100%
I think the cloud towers looks pretty bloody stupid too, but while Australia has a collection of "world's largest" buildings and our hideous monument to the performing arts I can't really critique from a position of strength

I was really, really hoping nobody would mention the Experience Music Project, the ugliest building in all of Washington, if not perhaps on the entire west coast.

-Would it help if I said it was inspired by Jimi Hendrix album covers? I don't know if that's true, but it certainly looks it, and would be relevant.
2011-12-10, 9:41 PM #36
Hmm. It is far less offensive from ground level. Seeing the entirety is kinda a shock, but when you can only see one or two of those finishes at once, and you're paying more attention to reflections and ****, it's not so bad.
