Oh man I have to read over the book again, haven't touched it in 10 years. I actually forgot what their quest was.

In the case that wasn't an exaggeration, the quest of the dwarves was to reclaim the Lonely Mountain (their former home) from the dragon Smaug. They enlisted the help of Gandalf and, because 13 was presumably an unlucky number, enlisted a 14th member, which Gandalf convinced them should be Bilbo as he could "burgle" for them. Gandalf, though, almost always ends up being elsewhere (presumably dealing with the Necromancer a.k.a. Sauron in the south end of Mirkwood, which seems to be more Gandalf's 'quest' throughout this time). There's a little more once they complete their quest, but that's the meat of the goal for the main characters (well, and that Bilbo secretly wants to go on an adventure).

I really hate this exclusive apple trailer bull****.

I DON'T WANT ****TY QUICKTIME AND ITUNES ON MY COMPUTER.

So I have to settle for a lower quality youtube version with ads in it.

Seems like it'll be a fun movie though.

you can always find the .mov file elsewhere and play it in VLC if you're that pissy about quicktime

also youtube isn't necessarily lower quality... stop living in 2007 youtube has had HD videos for a while now

If it comes out as an Apple exclusive, it's a MOV. Someone has to re-encode it before they can upload it to YouTube... so it is necessarily lower quality.

doesn't have to be reencoded... you can remux the streams into a different container before uploading...

I just want to start off by saying that this trailer gave me goosebumps. Not one of the LotR movies has done that so far. Happy! :)

Seconded on the goosebumps. I read The Hobbit over and over again in grade school. The Lord of the Rings had a completely different tone to it that I also enjoyed, but would've been really boring to capture on screen and they did good to make it more of an action film. On the other hand, The Hobbit has this fairytale feeling to it that this trailer at least captures incredibly well.

The one thing I really want from this is the perspective that simple little Bilbo has to this wondrous world, because that's what I always really enjoyed. The Shire had this mundane feeling to it that you can only have for home, and all of the fantasy stuff that gets taken for granted today was just rumors to the hobbits. Bilbo's anti-hero status in this foreign reality makes him incredibly identifiable to the reader.

It actually wasn't. I know well the quest of the Lord of Rings trilogy, but for some reason the mission in The Hobbit eludes me.

Thanks!
