Hey all. It's been 6 years since I've gotten a new setup for myself.

Sure, an extra gig of DDR2 and a different vid card, but I needed MORE.

My new CPU may not be an i7, or even a Phenom II X6 1100T B.E. (ugh)
But I can clock it well over 5 GHz with liquid cooling. Already opened the cpu's box, so SCREW IT!

But seriously, I'm not too worried. If I desperately want a switch, I'll get something else.

All I know is that BF3 is going to run High/Ultra @ 60fps. That's what people are seeing/saying, anyway. And seeing this thing OC'd to 5.5 GHz makes up for the design in the way that I am lacking funds right now.

Trust me, if I had the money, I would have gotten different EVERYTHING. But this is my budget. And I already opened the cpu box. Can't return it. :/

Did you pay any more for it then any phenom model? A phenom would literally be faster then that thing. It's the single worst processor to be released since the pentium 4.

That video card is okay and the rest is nice, I just can't get past the processor.

Perhaps you should do some benchmark tests. Just remember not to stare into the wall.

Netburst is a terrible architecture in retrospective, and bulldozer does a lot of the same things wrong.

No, I paid less than any of the phenom models. So that's good at least. :p

I'm going to try not to be too negative here, since you already made your purchase. Personally I would have gone with the Phenom2 X4 960T(AM3) or i3-2100 (1155, Intel), they are usually comparably priced. But it's quite possible the FX-6100 can serve your needs fine. A word of warning: If you plan to upgrade your graphics in the future don't go with 2x5770's, stick with a single powerful GPU. That motherboard is 16x/4x (8x/8x is better) and multi-gpu scaling on AM3 & AM3+ is poor under ideal situations.



I don't know what resolution your talking about here, but you wont get anywhere near 60fps(avg) on Ultra @ 1080p. That takes a very powerful graphics card... something like a GTX590/6990/7970.

Yeah using a 5400rpm drive for OS isn't ideal, but HDD prices do suck right now. Good luck with your new build.

Oh my good god. For once I have to side with Tibby. You made the worst possible CPU decision you could have made. There are literally no words for how bad of a mistake you made there.

You would have been better off getting some cheapass i3 instead of that, even if it was slower. Because at least then you're getting what you paid for. The bulldozer chip is not only terribly godawful bad, the socket is a dead end and will be unupgradeable. It also sucks power like a goddamn vacuum, produces heat like no other, and has a DUMB NAME.

AMD Bulldozed their way into the scrapheap of history.

And CM, the WD caviar green models scale their RPMs according to workload/activity.

Yeah but I don't think they ever ramp up to 7200rpm like a standard model. WD calls them 'variable speed'.

It does some things wrong. They are not the same things that the P4 does wrong.

AMD really needs to get sued for falsely advertising their crippled single-core crippled four-issue superscalar CPU as a dual core. It's not a dual core. Take the number of cores on a Bulldozer and divide by two, and that's what you're actually getting.
