New Year's Resolutions from Massassians
2011-12-29, 3:07 PM #1
Anyone attempting a resolution of some sort starting on New Year's?

I think I'm going to try and take a stab at these myself:
  • Apply for at least one new job a week until I get hired for some place better (possibly re-applying as felt necessary at preferred places).
  • Build the infrastructure for the NeS wiki, starting with covering 1 forum page a day (pretty ambitious for even just laying down the structure, as that'll take approximately 3 months).
  • Do some form of weight-training exercise everyday, however minimal, just to lock down a habit to overcome my laziness.

Of course, I'll only even be able to feign hope of following through with any of these if I make sure to tell everyone so that they bother me.

Just don't do the same ones every day. Try to only do particular exercises once or twice a week. It keeps things interesting and leaves you plenty of recovery time. And only actually work out with weights 3 or 4 times a week. Run on the off days, and do nothing on Sunday.

I just happened to have written mine this morning, but they might be a bit personal:

1. Be Creative.
I want to be more creative. At one point I was writing every day, I got antsy if I couldn't doodle, and I read and watched movies regularly. Not doing these things has killed my creativity. So I need to consume more in order to do more creative things, like start filming for fun again.

2. Be Humble and Accountable.
I talk too much and ask leading questions instead of just asking for help or listening, which is something I would like to work on this year. I also want to make fewer promises, and be more action oriented. I want to have a schedule instead of a "To Do..." list, so I can see when things have happened or what I didn't do. Despite this, I also need to do better at forgiving myself instead of locking up or making excuses.

3. Be Active.
I worked out too much last year and burned myself out, as mentioned already. I want to be physically active instead of just working out. That means doing things the more difficult way and taking the time to do things that others usually do for me. I also want to volunteer like I once did, as it was one of the biggest contributors to my overall happiness, and also made me a lot more organized. I also used to be a lot more politically active locally, but I'm not sure I have the patience for that anymore.

4. Be Independent
I am on a list to move into an accessible apartment this year when one opens up, which is exciting. I'm getting a new wheel chair with a seat that fits me better which should greatly improve the previous goal. Just like everyone else, I'm also looking for a new, regular job. Hopefully the apartment that I get is closer to the bus line making that easier.

Overall, 2011 was kind of a ****ty, slow, sad year around here. I did spend the year with a wonderful lady who I am incredibly in love with, and we've been keeping each other strong and mindful, but that was about the only thing we had going for us. 2012 already has a lot more going for it, and is starting off a lot better.

I also don't really have any resolutions, other than to just keep up what I'm doing as far as fitness goes. If anything I'd like to work on my running and my abs more, but I'm already doing that.

Turns out that in the 11years I've been here, I've never posted in a new years resolution thread. Anyway, I resolved many years ago not to make any any more new years resolutions. I haven broken it is yet.

Since I'm still reeling in shock from the ****storm that was this year for me, I'm not really making any resolutions other than to continue on the positive trend that I just started on and hope that for every 2 steps I make forward, I don't make another 3 back. One resolution that does come to mind is to pick my battles wisely.

That's so meta.

Anyway, I don't make New Year's resolutions, so here's Woody Guthrie's from 1942:
