Anyone been following this? I never realized that someone was making a buttload of money of this site. And that its some guy that looks like a irl Shrek. Dude seems like a total tool based on all the pics of him around. But hey he had money so that's cool.

But what's everybodys thoughts on the whole situation. Obv pirate site is obvious. But some people where paying for it. Some people ... Not many I imagine.. Hosted legit stuff. Now that all might be deleted pretty soon since the FBI took all the money paying for the servers. I'm wondering what kind of weird international laws and stuff involved.

I'm not really feeling a lot of pity for legit paying members of megaupload. It was blatantly obvious that megaupload was hosting a large amount of copyrighted material and based on the internal communications at have been released it seems that it was beyond negligence, that piracy was condoned.

And I'm not really understanding the user lawsuit against the FBI. I mean I guess once the FBI is done with megaupload servers, it could provide legit users access to their files again but it's not like the FBI owes them for loss of service. Those lawsuits should be directed at megaupload.com

If I pay someone to do a job and that person gets arrested before my contract is fullfilled, I can sue the police?

its more like if a storage facility that you are renting a space at gets raided by fbi and all you stuff gets confiscated... who do you sue to get your stuff back?
i really kinda agree with you though. it was REALLY obvious megaupload at the very LEAST hosted illicit stuff... you kinda have to be a few crayons short to keep anything of value on the site with no other backup.

I honestly don't remember ever downloading something from megaupload that wasn't copywrited material.

I used it often for backup purposes if I was going to be doing serious reformats, sharing big collections of pictures with friends, and my current video group was making great use of it to trade clips for our video series.

-I also downloaded a staggering amount of porn and copyrighted material off it, admittedly, but I also used it a lot for actual legit purposes.
