I guess the only thing I have to say is that I am truly ashamed of the government of my country, and apologize to the rest of the world for allowing these people to run the country.
Note: Please refer to Jon'Cs post for further detail on the issue, it may have not been as bad as I had first assumed, but I still find it an alarming development.

I'm not knowledgeable about such things, maybe military personnel on here might be, but does anyone know the effectiveness of torture? Or alternative methods to extract information?

The Canadian government approved acting upon information extracted through torture. Before, if it was suspected that information was obtained through torture, it was rejected and CSIS was forbidden from acting upon or reporting the information. All this means is that CSIS can now continue working with countries that do use torture, i.e. the United States. It does not mean CSIS is now authorized to commit torture, because they aren't, and won't, and CSIS doesn't believe information extracted through torture is useful anyway.

Mountain, molehill.

Basically all this means is that Tibby is a huge illiterate dumbass who wouldn't know what's going on in his own country if he didn't read it on the NDP Twitter feed.

I like how you are a complete jackass to everybody you meet. When you meet somebody in real life are this much of a terrible human being or what.
Actually **** it, You have never said anything to me of any meaning or worth. Instead you just spew forth bile as if you believe all human beings are under you. So I'm just gonna stop seeing your posts.
Here's a helpful tip from your friend Tibby- when somebody is wrong about something, and you know it, rather then being a jackass and insulting them over it, correct them. You can correct people without insulting them you know, it's hard for some people but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. For example:
"No tibby, this doesn't actually mean CSIS approves of torture themselves, it simply means they will now use information gained from other sources through torture. So in the end this isn't that much of a big deal. I would also like to point out that CSIS believe torture is not a useful way of extracting information."
Please feel free to use this example as a guideline for future posting. I have faith in you Jon'C, You will get it eventually!

In other words I'm right.

**** you suburban internet latchkey kids, acting like stuck-up brats about our government because you just can't conceive of a reason why the rest of Canada would vote for politicians who don't use Facebook. I bet you blame the boomers for voting Conservative too.

I can't even come with a response to that post, it's so stupid on so many levels and makes so many dumb baseless assumptions about my political views that I just can't fathom how to retort. Also resorting to simple name calling? That's not like you man, come on.

No, what's stupid is assuming the Canadian government is authorizing torture and anxiously posting about it on the Internet even though TFA you posted says basically the exact opposite.

You didn't read it. You didn't read it, but you posted it, and you were like "holy ****." So where, if not on the NDP Twitter feed, did you get your summary?

Well, if you want someone to say something, it's great. If you have a case you want closed and you can't find the perpetrator responsible, you can torture any old fool into signing a confession and it's a done deal.
Oh, and if you want to brainwash someone, torture is incredibly important. Alternate it with kindness, use a bit of psychology, and you can totally destroy someone's personality and install a new one.
But the most effective use of torture is making yourself feel better. Like, you've been told this person committed an awful crime and you've seen the signed confession certainly acquired via totally ethical methods, and you just hate this person so darn much you might as well torture them a bit. It makes you feel good, like you're on the right side.

-Just about the only thing you can't do with it is get useful information. If they don't know where THE BOMB is, torturing them won't allow them to download that information from the terrorist hivemind. And even if they do know where THE BOMB is, there's nothing to stop them from giving a false answer, and sufficient torture can brainwash them into thinking it's the correct one.

From the CBC, I was checking it today and it caught my eye. I will freely admit that I tend to be alarmist at times, but taking it as some bizarre personal offence and then frothing at the mouth while lunging at me isn't exactly how you go about this. I'm glad we're able to talk about this now without yelling at each other though.

But then he wouldn't be even a fraction as entertaining as he is now. I'd much rather he be a jackass to me if it amuses the rest of you. Stop being so selfish, Tibby. Think of the welfare of the forum.

I'd also argue that his tactics are the only way he's able to get his point across to :tinfoil: people such as you and me.
