Dragon Age 2?

Anyone ever play Dragon Age 2?

I really liked the first game and its expansion, and I'm really into the story and setting of Dragon Age. I've finished pretty much everything in Origins, and I'm debating buying DA2. I've seen how they've made everything unnecessarily fast and flashy, and I've heard that the story and characters are noticeably worse. Knowing that I won't like it as much as the first (I grew up on BG 1 and 2 after all), is it still worth getting for its own sake? Without comparing it to origins too much, is it a good/fun game? And is it worth spending ~$18 on, or is it better to wait until it's dirt cheap?

I thought the original was better, but I don't think Dragon Age 2 is as horrible as most people made it out to be. I felt it was still worth playing and liked the story.

- I liked the graphics and combat better in the original.
- The original felt like it had alot more choices and possible outcomes. (More replay?)
- Dragon Age 2 seemed much less challenging than the original. Perhaps this was due to changes in the combat system, but I would go a long time without even encountering a 'difficult' battle. Also it wasnt just the battles that were easier, in the original it was much more challenging to convince the female NPC's to become 'romantically' involved.

I think I paid $12.50 or so for my copy a while back on an Origin sale. I think it's worth playing, it just fails when compared to the original.

I think I just out-nerded you.

It's worth about 20 dollars and feels like a PS2 game that came out in 2003.

I wouldn't go that far.

That's just what it made me think of. 2006 maybe? Either way it feels like it had a PS2 in mind.

It's probably worth $18. It has occasional moments of brilliance, even if most of the story is an exercise in frustration built around a bumbling and ineffectual player character.

yep, played it. didn't finish, not nearly as good as the first. first was more like baldur's gate, second more like, mmm, mass effect but without the fun bits and set in fantasy setting.

Not a good sign, haha.

I really enjoyed it. The reason it got such a negative reception is that it wasn't a "proper" sequel to Dragon Age: Origins. Same setting and lore, obviously, and a similar combat system, but they changed a lot. Think of the difference between Mass Effect 1 and 2, but multiplied.

I'd say it's definitely worth picking up at a reduced price, not necessarily dirt cheap. I had it pre-ordered for the Signature Edition bonuses and I've got no regrets paying full price for it (just checked my emailed receipt, it was £30). Most of the things you loved about DA:O are still going to be in the game, perhaps just less so, so buying it now the price has gone down makes sense to me.

That's not because it was a challenge to get a romance going in the first one. It really wasn't difficult at all. It's just because women and men alike throw themselves at Hawke in DA2 as long as he asks them how their day is going every now and then.

I can't say I was a big fan. Replayability was rather poor, as choices had little significant impact. The whole combat system was just bizarre. I hated the waves of enemies. Had they had varied encounters, some with waves, some with only those you saw on screen, ambushes, and more, it would have been a world better.

Generally, I beat bioware rpgs several times each. KOTOR was beat 5 times. Neverwinter NIghts was been 4 times. Mass Effect I beat 6 times. Mass Effect 2 I beat about 4 times. Dragon Age I beat 3 times. Dragon Age 2 I only played once and a half. I couldn't subject myself to a full second playthrough. The story telling was just really shoddy. The decade-long story had so much potential and the way they pulled it off was just poor.

Dragon Ages 2 was by far the worst RPG Bioware has created, closely followed by WoW-In-Space.

I think I'll replay and beat Origins+Awakening as a blood mage, graduate, and come back and try DA2 in the fall. Hopefully it will be a little bit cheaper by then. Think they'll screw up a DA3 as well?

Also, Jep, that's a ridiculous amount of time to spend on RPGs. That's a serious time investment.
