Hey all, I didn't see a thread for E3 yet. If you missed the press conferences today, or you don't feel like watching hours of video, I've put together a page of the game trailers that were showcased. I'm going to update it throughout the day as more stuff is released.

http://completelyoverrated.com/2012/06/04/e3-2012-game-showcase-day-1/

Best part so far was either Tomb Raider or RE 6.

I've been waiting years for a new Splinter-Cell game but I've got to say I'm not very excited for what I saw. No Michael Ironside?!

Tomb Raider was the only thing that looked interesting, and it was just more of what we've seen before really.

RE6 is just more of the quick time event simulator. Boring.

I'll probably play Halo 4 just because I like the story, as I only play the actual main Halo games. But I'm not beating any doors down to play it either.

Frankly, overall I think E3 is going to be a big flop. The only way I'm going to get excited is if they blow me away with some awesome Smash Bros. stuff tomorrow.

I don't know how to react to the fact that I am agreeing with you.

Dead Space 3 is now Lost Planet. Splinter Cell has no focused stealth direction it seems.

Hard to get excited over shooters at all anymore, especially third-person.

Gotta agree with most of what is being said. SimCity got me excited though.

I hope ACIII is awesome because frankly Revelations destroyed my confidence in the series.

Wonder what they're going to do with the little fact that almost all the founding fathers were Free Masons, and the Free Masons are Templars. Just seems like a little bit of a problem.

If South Park RPG is getting a PC release, ill be all over that. Watch Dogs looks awesome too, like an improved Deus Ex: HR.

To be the 5th South Park friend, with Parker & Stone talking to me through the screen... hmm, it's the dream I've always had but never known it.

Wiki says it's for PC too, but then again "they" said the same thing about that Obi-Wan game in my Adventurer magazine! (Not to mention that it was to be "in the tradition of Dark Forces and Jedi Knight....)

Actually, I'd most of all like an RPG where I assume the role of that Wookiee kid from the SW Holiday Special. You know, where he was watching some kind of alien porn (was is twi'lek or wookiee or ... porn?)? And tripping on some kind of hallucinogen? I'd at least be able to deflect suspicion about crossing over from SW fanatic to SP junkie.

Anyway- fightig the frizzies, at 11.

Assassin's Creed III, Watch Dogs, Dead Spaché 3 and the Last of Us have me hyped to my wit's end.

I'm glad the industry is moving away from first person shooters. I was never a fan of them. Cover-based shooters make more sense to me than running around soaking up bullets. That being said, some first person shooters have really nailed gameplay in the last few years. Killzone's cover-based FPS system was pretty awesome. BF3 also does a great job what with suppression first and what not.

Nope. Still nothing that would really make my pants wet in anticipation. Man, I wish I wasn't dead inside!

Also, I like it how Unreal Engine 3 is 5 years old and still going strong. There certainly weren't any games running any 1998 engines in E3 2002 (I think).

That's mostly because the industry stagnates. Back in 1998, pc gaming was still incredibly strong, it wasn't held back by console hardware. These days, everything's cross platform and its incredibly rare that a game is developped for PC first. As a result the need for new engines like Unreal Engine 4+ comes at a much slower rate. Thankfully, developpers have been able to innovate over the years gameplay-wise.

Dead Space looks cool. Loved the first one. Still haven't played the second.

Ass Creed III LOOKS AMAZING!!! The prospect of hanging out with George and maybe even Ben or Tom is awesome to me. I only ever played the first one which was cool, albeit repetitive. Ive also played brotherhood online quite a bit, but haven't been invested in the games main story since the first one (there are what? 4 total now or 5?)

Ive been scouring the web for info about the south park game since it was on the cover of Gameinformer last January. My birthday is the 29th of January so naturally i saw it as a sign from god-nay a gift! Im one of those sp fans that know every episode, every title and still finds glee in watching them over and over again. One of my favorite shows ever.

Ever since i saw the episode "An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig" when i was 7, and Elton john came out and starting to sing with chef. I knew then. Id be watching this show for the rest of my life....

There haven't been any significant advances in how 3D engines work since Direct3D 9 was released with hardware instancing.

The only live keynote I watched was the Xbox one, which was appalling as usual. Don't give a flying crap about crappy Kinect crap.

Caught up with many of the trailers today. I'm really looking forward to Assassin's Creed 3 (the naval battle looked incredible), Watch_Dogs (mind-blowing), Star Wars 1313 (please be good), Tomb Raider (about time the series got a bit more mature), South Park (****-YEAH) and The Last of Us (thought this would be another sodding zombie game, but it takes more cues from The Road).

Not sure about Dead Space 3. I loved the first two, but they seem to be taking it in the wrong direction.

Stuff that's absolute bobbins that I can't give a toss about: Black Ops 2, Halo 4, any aforementioned Kinect bollocks, the new Nintendo console, SmartArse and anything sport-related.

I agree. I went into it thinking "Ok Nintendo, show me why I am going to buy your new system." They really didn't sell me on it at all. If you missed it, you can see it here:

Honestly, from my point of view, the new nintendo console has 0 appeal, 0 value, and is just trying to introduce more worthless, gimmicky ways of playing video games.

They try to appeal to the hardcore crowd, but I ask this: How can anyone seriously justify laying down hundreds of dollar for a console that will be (easily) topped the following year?

I've never owned a Nintendo in my life (I was a Sega fanboy as a kid). When they showed the WiiU last year with that stupid tablet controller, I knew that was never going to change.

Don't worry, they offer an Xbox 360 controller too.
2012-06-05, 2:32 PM #30
I haven't been following up on E3, so I don't know if there's anything new they announced about the WiiU since last time. However, my complaints will be the limitations I recall hearing about the tablet controller (namely that the system will only support 1) and, just like the Wii, that developers won't take advantage of the game play possibilities that they should with it. Like with graphics, gameplay capability is only as good as the published games that do something meaningful with them. I don't recall Nintendo's E3 panels ever being a selling point, and from what I've heard from E3, it seems like a lot of the same for the other platforms. I can appreciate that a game like WatchDog is technically impressive, and the gameplay looks to be either extremely railroaded or certainly plagued with more bugs than a Bethesda game, perhaps both. At least Nintendo is offering the potential for games I've not experienced before, even if it's far more likely for its potential to go wasted.

I'll probably keep my eye on indie games on Steam and look to non-video games these days for gaming experiences that are new to me.

Nintendo set the trend with the N64 and the Gamecube.

It also doesn't matter. Designs should be based on concepts that work, they should not be made new and different just for the sake of being new and different.

Stop rehashing dribble you saw on reddit in an attempt to be clever.

I'm far more excited that there's a new Carmageddon game in the works being made independently by the original developers than anything at E3.
