Decent videocard for gaming if my budget is $250?
2012-07-05, 3:47 PM #1
(Because if it costs $250 in America, it'll cost about 250€ over here, no matter the exchange rate.)

Thank you Massassi. ;)

P.s. debate is welcome. I would love to see a videocard debate...

It is $100 more than your budget, but the Geforce 3 Ti 500 is king. That is my recollection of the situation, but I admit to being out of the loop these days.

Dude...

Well, at least you didn't say Voodoo 2 or something.

Get a Radeon 7850 HD, should be roughly in your 250 euro pricerange. If it actually turns out to be much cheaper, get the 7870 GHz Edition.

Cool Matty, I disagree. The card I mentioned is comparable to the Radeon 8500, and that has a higher number than the 7850.

Or are you saying that they actually ran out of numbers and are going in a loop?

It has an HD at the end, and also the GF3 Ti 200 was much faster than the Radeon 8500 :P

I'll second the ATI 7850HD. Loving my purchase, runs most things at 1920x1080 without a problem.

Yup, that one's in the pricerange! The 7870 seems to go for around 350-400€ here...

I looked closer and unfortunately the 7850 is for PCIe 3.0, whilst my motherboard's PCIe slot supports 2.0. :(

Is 3.0 backwards compatible with 2.0, and if it is, how much performance would I miss out on with this card due to no 3.0 slot?

Very little on a 16X slot. They're backwards compatible, you'll be fine.

Yeah, a 680 can't even fully utilize an x16 2.0 slot (equivalent in usable speed to an x8 3.0 slot). My SLI setup actually runs two 680s on two x8 3.0 slots (standard for most Z77 motherboards except the really high end ones).

You'll be just fine with a 7850.

The performance should be nearly the same. The difference is often in the fan (proprietary) & the warranty.
? :)

Yep HD7850 is the smart buy at that price range, until the GTX660 drops there is no competion. Its killing me that the week I go on vacation, Massassi has 2 computer hardware questions :).

Well, the 2 questions may have been resolved, but you still got to post 2 (identical) answers.

EVGA has a step-up program. That's all I know.
error; function{getsig} returns 'null'
